Antrim / Armstrong family Belfast
« on: Wednesday 24 February 21 00:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Am currently researching 2 sides of family. However this one I have hit a wall. My grandfather was born in Malone place on the Lisburn road in 1914. "Gordon getty armstrong"
His mother was named Margaret Armstrong. He was illegitimate hence the location of birth.
I have no other knowledge than they lived in 50 my ladys road Belfast (where my mum grew up-although she was born in cork).
I cannot find who Margarets parents are. Or her siblings, I was told there were 8 children. Gordon I'm assuming was given Getty as a nod to the unknown father. Apparently he was placed in a home and taken out and raised by his grandmother.
His mother Margaret and I think some sibling soon after emigrated to Canada. That's where all my research on this side ends.

Any help appreciated!

Hello

Am new so I apologise for information overload.
My mother was born in buttevant in 1947. All I know of this side of the family is what she told me and what I have managed to find online records.

My great grandparents were John burke /bourke and abina (Abby) O'Brien.
They had Catherine/Kathleen  born 1918, Mary and John (jack). Mary died at 14 jack never married and I believe stayed in the family home. Have the land to the neighbour.
I have only found Mary's death cert. Not jack's birth. I have found a Catherine burke birth in April 1918 but this is confis6 as we were always told her name was Kathleen Philomena and she only used Catherine when they went north.
Abina died in childbirth with Mary approx 1922 I cannot find a cert.
Abinas parents were Patrick and Mary O'Brien (nee Fitzgerald from what I can read). However in their marriage cert name is just Brien. 1898.

John burke and his brother Patrick married sisters. John married Abina and Patrick married?.... I have no knowledge of Patrick's family after this even though the brothers lived next door. As my grandmother Catherine left to work as a servant in England in 1930 we have no info. They returned to cork but then moved to Belfast later on.

I'd like to find more info about the O'Brien's Burke's and Fitzgeralds of mallow/doneraile/buttevant. I seem to have hit a wall.
John's father was also John.
