Canada / William Frederick James BELCHER and Toronto
« on: Sunday 21 April 24 17:19 BST (UK)  »
My great uncle William Frederick James BELCHER (b 1881)emigrated from England to Canada around 1910.

He settled in Toronto, later marrying a Rose Elizabeth CALVER in 1914, who was also an emigrant from England.

He then served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WW1.

After which, I believe he then worked for the (or a ) Toronto Tramcar company.
[ I have a photo showing him with colleagues alongside a tramcar ].

I am able to find him on the 1921 census with Rose and one child, but beyond that, I am none the wiser.
Might someone be able to direct me what / where records post 1921 might be, if available ?

Or maybe some other is also researching the same family and may wish to contact ?

My thanks in advance.

Hertfordshire / William BATCHELOR and Charlotte BELCHER
« on: Friday 22 March 24 17:57 GMT (UK)  »
William BATCHELOR and Charlotte BELCHER are shown as having married in Hemel Hempstead in January 1852 and post that date appear untraceable. They are not found in Hertfordshire or London, nor in locations their family are found.

Whilst a William and Charlotte BATCHELOR are recorded as having lived in the area for numerous years, unfortunately it is not that family I am tracing. This particular Charlotte was prior to marriage a RICKETT(s).

I have not found any indication that they may have emigrated nor relevant death records : To me they appear lost, so if any other researchers are able to indicate a trace that would be most appreciated.

My thanks in advance.

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Richard COOKE : Eaton Bray
« on: Tuesday 22 August 23 16:27 BST (UK)  »
Enquiring might somebody to be able to assist with information reference this Baptism :

Richard COOKE  baptised 3rd March 1632 Eaton Bray, Beds.

No fathers name is mentioned, but his mother is named as Elyzabeth COOKE (spelling as recorded).

Both FindMyPast and Family Search record the same information.

I have an idea, that maybe, Elyzabeth was more than likely a single woman (by status).
Which is what I would like to confirm.

If anyone might have access to / sight of the original documents or transcriptions, that may show any additional information, that would help to clarify.

My thanks in advance, info would be most appreciated.

The Common Room / Family name SAVEROUSE
« on: Monday 12 June 23 21:22 BST (UK)  »
In my research I have found a Baptism as follows :

Henry SAVEROUSE : baptised 4th January 1846 at All Saints parish church, Winterton, Lincs.

The entry shows his parents as Henry and Eliza SAVEROUSE, with Henry snr. being recorded as an
interpreter.

I believe that the Eliza is Eliza BLYTH (b 1811 Winterton), by reference to Henry jnr. later being recorded in the 1851 Winterton census, as a grandson, aged 5 years, with other BLYTH ancestors.

I am unable to find any BMD info relating to Henry and Eliza's place of Marriage, nor can I find a birth registration for Henry jnr. (though the census entry records Winterton )

Post the 1846 Baptism I cannot find any further records that trace the parents or their whereabouts.

Similarly, post the 1851 census for Henry jnr. I have not been able to trace any of them.

Might theses names feature in your research, that maybe could direct me, to expand my data ?

Any info appreciated and gratefully received;

Thanks Brian

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Susannah ASTON
« on: Sunday 16 October 22 13:53 BST (UK)  »
Might someone be able to assist in finding a Baptism for a Susannah ASTON, as follows :

The details I can provide are :

Susanna(h) ASTON(s) born around 1809 in the West Bromwich area.

I believe she married Thomas TAYLOR in September 1829 in West Bromwich and from Free Reg it quotes " with the consent of parents " in their transcription.
The Witnesses were Benjamin and Phebe ASTON (ASTIN).

If anyone can point to who might be her parents (as I have drawn a blank with Benjamin and Phebe) I would be most grateful.

The brackets show how names have been transcribed in the various pieces I have observed.
My thanks in advance;

Brian

Gloucestershire / Thomas Campbell (Kemble) BELCHER ( in UK )
« on: Monday 30 May 22 15:01 BST (UK)  »
I find the above in my research, but have not been able to trace his Baptism.

The data I have is born c 1781 Ashbrook in Glos. traced from census and Death details.

Found in 1841 census in Herts listed as Not born in county
Found in 1851 census in Herts, birthplace listed as Ashbrook Glos.
Found in 1861 census in London but I believe incorrectly birthplaced as Herts (with his daughter )
Died 1867 London.

I believe Ashbrook is an alt name for Ampney St Peter, in Glos.

He married Lucy TROTT 1805 St Albans, Herts.

Other researchers find a Thomas BELCHER b 1775 Gaddessden, Herts and link him to Lucy Trott.

Any info / knowledge appreciated.

Thanks in advance  Brian E

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Ann CLAYTON Andover Baptism 1796
« on: Saturday 11 December 21 12:03 GMT (UK)  »
Ann CLAYTON baptised February 1796 Andover.

Find My Past transcripts show her as daughter of John and Ann, however, on one of their transcripts there is a note with a statement " 3 days ".

I suspect this may indicate she was three days old, but until I can obtain sight of the record, might a local researcher, familiar with Hampshire records, be able say what is/was  the intent of the additional note. Is it found elsewhere ?

Any information gratefully received and my thanks in advance.

Family History Beginners Board / Australian Miners
« on: Sunday 08 August 21 19:05 BST (UK)  »
Might a forum reader(s) have knowledge about Australian miners, in the mid to late 1880's.

In particular was there recruitment that brought them to the UK or maybe to elsewhere via the UK ?

I have traced who I believe may be my GGGF, born in Buninyong, Victoria, Australia through a shipping passenger manifest, where surprisingly a majority of the passengers on his particular passage were, like him, male / single and recorded their occupation as miner.
( I am intrigued as to why quite so many (with the same occupation) would have been travelling together).

I feel there, most probably, may have been some incentive / inducement to have seen so many travelling together.

Any information appreciated.

Thanks
