Berkshire / George Moon
« on: Friday 07 October 22 20:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have the death of a George Moon in Turrels Buildings Maidenhead in 1873, he was a Paper Mill Labourer, this piece of info gave me enough to trace him back to Tufton Hampshire.
A burial record states:
Burial George Moon 08.09.1873 St Luke's Maidenhead 53yrs old living in Barracks Maidenhead-this is 100% him.

I'm a little confused as his death certificate states Turrels Buildings but the burial record states Barracks, beside the obvious what is the Barracks?

On the same note I also have his son registered as Tom Moon born Sep qtr 1872 Cookham 2c, his death is 1877 under Thomas Church Moon, his burial is 24.02.1877 St Luke's Maidenhead 4yrs 6 months living in The Barracks.

Another son registered George Church was born 1867 Turrels Buildings Maidenhead, father George Church Moon, his death in 1884 was registered under George Church Moon his burial 12.04.1884 St Luke's Maidenhead 18yrs.

Any ideas for The Barracks please and any ideas for the additon of Church as a middle name or additional surname, please find below what the family reseach found so far:

Martha Talmage is the mother to the below children:
Alice Talmage b: Jun qtr 1865 Whitchurch 2c pge 182 she married Samuel Varnell using Alice Church Moon.
George Church b: 1867 death + burial registered George Church Moon.
Mary Ann Moon b: 1869 married as Mary Ann Church Moon.
Tom Moon b: 1872 death as Thomas Churchmoon burial registered Thomas Church Moon.

George Moon died in 1873 and I believe is the father to George Church, Mary Ann Moon and Tom Moon

BUT in 1871 Martha was:

1871 census Turrell Buildings Cookham
George Church HD M 45yrs Labourer b: Whitchurch Hants
Matha Church WI M 33yrs b: Whitchurch Hants
Alice Church DA 7yrs Scholar b: Cookham Berks
George Church SO 4yrs b: Cookham Berks
Mary A Church DA 2yrs b: Cookham Berks

Martha registered a child's birth James Church Moon Jun qtr 1875 Cookham 2c pge 401

Are George Church and George Moon different men, I think this is definate through the last registered child? Did Martha have 2 men/husbands between 1865-1875? By the way I have not found a marriage for Martha Talmage to a George Church or a George Moon

In 1881 Martha was:
1881 census 25 Turrells Buildings Cookham
Martha Church HD W 40yrs Launderess b: Hants Whitchurch
George Church SO M 13yrs Labourer b: Berks Cookham
Mary A Church DA M 11yrs b: Berks Cookham
James Church SO 7yrs b: Berks Cookham

Marriage Martha Moom Robert Christmas Wall Dec qtr 1881 Cookham 2c pge 891
Married 02.10.1881 in the parish of SS Andrews Berkshire.
Robert Christmas Wall was 54yrs old, a Widower living in this parish, father Thomas Easmus Wall ?
Martha Moom was 40yrs old, a Widow living in this parish, father James Talmage Bricklayer.
? and ? were the witnesses.

An outsider's point of view would be great please and The Barracks explanation would be gratefully received. Thank you for reading.

regards,

Sarah

Monmouthshire / Evans and Jones Marshfield
« on: Monday 22 August 22 17:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am requesting any guesses at GGG Grandmother's birth place and birth year.

On her marriage certificate to Zephaniah Jones she is Jane Evans 20yrs old, living in Blacktown father William Evans Gardener.

The census info has her as Jane Jones:

1861 20yrs born Marshfield
1871 28yrs born Christchurch
1881 40yrs born Marshfield
1891 47yrs born Pontypool

As I am not great at Welsh parishes I have found the below births with the mother's maiden name:

Jane Evans WEBBER Jun qtr 1840 Monmouth 26 pge 80
Jane Evans LEWIS    Jun qtr 1841 Pontypool  26 pge 141
Jane Eleanor Evans POWELL Jun qtr 1844 Pontypool 26 pge 145
Jane Evans WILLIAMS Dec qtr 1844 Pontypool 26 pge 123

Have I got the right district that cover her different birth places please?

I am happy to acquire the birth certs and any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you.

regards,

Sarah

Good morning and apologies for the lack of knowledge in the searching of my below query.

I have a relative whose birth has not been registered but his baptism appears on Ancestry:

Baptised 18.11.1849 St John's Hampstead born: 18.10.1849
Frederick William George. Father Samuel & Mary Ann Varnell Hampstead Messenger

His parents are Samuel Varnell and Mary Ann Humphreys. I have used every alternative spelling of VARNELL including PARNELL/FARNELL etc etc.

I found Frederick's admission Barnet Hendon Union Egware Workhouse Friday 14.02.1890 Varnell Frederick Billiard Marker Religion:EC b:1850 Parish from which admitted: Willesden Oberservations on admittance: ILL.

His discharge record Barnet Hendon Union Egware Workhouse Saturday 29.03.1890
Varnell Frederick discharged at own request Parish from which admitted: Willesden.

I have been unable to locate him in the 1891 census.

I found his death and have received his death certificate: 27.03.1899 Hampstead Workhouse.
He died of Chronic Hepatitis, Hypertrophy and dilation of heart. PM. Certified by E C Taylor M.D.
H.C. Russell Master Hampstead Workhouse was the informant. (his age on his death cert does not correspond with his age BUT it's definitely my Frederick)

I assume that there was a Post Mortem and may not necessarily appear recorded anywhere like a newspaper.

Does anyone know if there are any records held anywhere for Hampstead Workhouse that would cover March 1899 please?

I am happy to pay for a research fee etc but I am a little lost as to who/where I have to enquire about any possible records for Hampstead Workhouse.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I look forward to any replies.

« on: Friday 18 February 22 10:40 GMT (UK)  »
I have a father:

George WARNER b: 24.01.1854 Long Crendon Buckinghamshire.

and his son:

James John WARNER b: 30.09.1880 Long Crendon Buckinghamshire.

Their family timeline is listed below:

1861 George WARNER 7 years old Long Crendon Buckinghamshire.

1871 George WARNER 17yrs old Agricultural Labourer Long Crendon Buckinghamshire.

22.12.1873 George WARNER married Fanny MAGEE Long Crendon Buckinghamshire.

22.06.1876 birth of Frances Jane WARNER b: Headington Oxfordshire (died 1953).

05.08.1878 birth of Susan Annie WARNER b: Headington Oxfordshire (emigrated to USA).

30.09.1880 birth James John WARNER b: Long Crendon Buckinghamshire.

1881 census George, Fanny, Frances, Susan and James in Long Crendon Buckinghamshire.

14.12.1884 marriage of Fanny WARNER using the surname Brown in Chelsea to  Charles MEGAIN claiming to be a widow.

(there is no marriage of a Fanny WARNER/Fanny MAGEE to a BROWN).

In the 1891 census Fanny MEGAIN is with Charles MEGAIN her 2 daughters plus her 3 MEGAIN children and no James John WARNER.

There are no recorded England Prison convictions for George WARNER or James John WARNER.
I have been unable to find records for George WARNER or James John WARNER.

I have traced James John WARNER/John James WARNER UK deaths none of them registered are him.

George's brother John WARNER was in London in the 1881 census, emigrated Brisbane Australia arriving 04.01.1886, married, raised a family, and died in Brisbane Australia.

Out of desperation  ::) I am looking for any migration records for George WARNER and James John WARNER.

Did George WARNER go to Brisbane taking his son, perhaps that's why John WARNER emigrated?

Thank you for your time and consideration. Any advice or thoughts will be gratefully appreciated.

Berkshire / Emma Florence Goodey b: 03.12.1880 Maidenhead Berkshire
« on: Thursday 17 February 22 08:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have hit a brick wall and have some thoughts but wondered if anyone else could add their thoughts or advice please thank you.

I have Emma Florence Goodey b: 03.12.1880 Maidenhead father Alfred Goodey, mother Louisa Goodey nee Dixon (Louisa's family history has been interesting  :D).

Emma appears in the 1881 census with her family:

1881 6 North Cottages North Town Maidenhead
Alfred Goodey HD M 28yrs Platelayer b: Berks Reading
Louisa Goodey WI M 26yrs b: Berks Maidenhead
Lizzie Goodey DA 4yrs  b: Berks Maidenhead
Agnes Goodey DA 3yrs  b: Berks Maidenhead
Ethel Goodey DA 2yrs  b: Berks Maidenhead
Emma Goodey DA 4mons  b: Berks Maidenhead
Helen Pocock Visitor U 19yrs Servant b: Bucks Slough

Helen Pocock is Ellen Pocock found in the 1871 census living in Upton Cum Chalvey Buckinghamshire with Susannah Howard a widow. Ellen is listed as a Nurse child (I am aware of what a Nurse child is).

Emma Florence Goodey has disappeared and is not with her family in the 1891 census or with her older sibling. I have not found a death either. She does not appear in the 1901 or 1911 census either.
Searches for Emma Florence Goodey using:

Emma Florence
Florence Emma
GOODEY
GOODY
GOODAY

have revealed nothing.

New ideas or thoughts would be gratefully accepted please, thank you for your time and consideration.

regards

Sarah
