Lancashire / 2nd Lt R W Stead - well this is a bit silly!
« on: Monday 15 October 07 13:13 BST (UK)  »
Well upon arriving here to update information it seems I no longer have anywhere to post it.  I now notice two separate threads for this subject and both are locked against me.

I also read that there is some information available which used to be publicly displayed, I guess this would be useful for refreshing memory and suggesting other lines of enquiry, but it seems I would also need to obtain a password from the holder.

This quest seems to have become a closed shop, kudos will most certainly go to those who finally pull the rabbit out of the hat, hopefully from good results being fed to the core team by those beavering away in the background with no place to lodge findings.  I leave you to it.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow between the crosses row on row, that marks our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below ...

Lancashire / Tarlington/Turlington? a place
« on: Sunday 28 May 06 06:34 BST (UK)  »
Good morning!
I wonder if anybody with a little local knowledge can help me identify where Ta/urlington is?

The first occasion I found this place on a census, I looked at birth registrations and believe I have the person in question registered in Preston, which would certainly fit in with all the family who originated in Bretherton (which is why I at first thought Tarleton, between Southport and Leyland) and then moved via Litherland and eventually to West Derby/Wavertree.

I've actually come across it now on two separate occasions in censuses which is making me wonder whether it's not Tarleton but maybe it was a small village which has merged into another and lost it's identity.

Has anybody heard of it?

Thanks for reading this
