Dear Members,

I'm hoping you can assist me. A Medal Roll Index Card for Andrew L Shearer is attached. No additional military records were found. How do I know he's the right person?

I am looking for Andrew Lockhart Shearer, born 2 April 1896 in Wishaw, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, to Robert Shearer and Barbara Brownlie.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Lanarkshire / Reid's Land (Depot), Coatbridge

Hello everyone,

I have been looking through Ordnance Survey maps for Reid's Land (Depot) in Coatbridge but have not been able to find it.

I have attached a section of the 1881 census record that includes the address. Is my interpretation correct?

The valuation rolls only show Reids Row.

Thanks,
Patrizia

Lanarkshire / St John Square, Motherwell (Dalziel), 1911

Hello,

Can anyone help me locate St John Square, in Motherwell (Dalziel), about 1911 or later? Maps, photos...

Previously, the family lived at New Logans. The head of the household was a coalminer.

I have searched a few ordnance maps to no avail.

Thanks!

Scotland / McClure Peter - Scotland
« on: Tuesday 02 August 22 10:43 BST (UK)  »
Dear Members,

I am new to the forum. I thank you in advance for any assistance you can give me.

I have been researching the McClure lineage of a friend and went back as far as his 2nd great-grandfather Peter McClure. All I have found about Peter McClure was that he was a steam ship engineer, married to Isabella Moodie, and had two children John and Jane. He appears only in the 1871 census in Dundyvan, Old Monkland, Lanarkshire. By 1881, Isabella was already a widow.

Thus, Peter McClure must have died between 1871 and 1881, however I could not find his death anywhere in Scotland. Furthermore, I have been unable to find his marriage record and the birth records of his children (born in Glasgow). The 1871 census reports that Peter McClure was born in Oban, Argyllshire, about 1840, but once again the research was unsuccessful. Btw, I have also tried different spellings, just in case.

Any suggestion?

Regards,
Patrizia
