Durham / Searching for Robert Pritchard Thompson
« on: Sunday 11 February 24 15:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all, I am looking for my great granduncle who is proving to be somewhat elusive after the 1921 census.

Born in 1903, East Castle (Durham), Robert Pritchard Thompson (his middle name Pritchard links to his patriline) grew up with his siblings and cousins along with his mother (Sarah) and aunt (Catherine) in Tanfield (1911).

I have since located him as a boarder living with the Slater family, in Tantobie, and working as coal miner driver at the Delight Colliery, employed by Bowes & Partners Ltd... After this, I am struggling to find a faithful trace for him and would really appreciate any leads  ???

For clarity, his mother and siblings, Selina and George, both relocated to Coventry during WW2 seemingly without him, as I cannot find any certs or documents to locate him after 1921.

My eyes are aching from too much screentime, researching this, haha! So a massive thanks in advance for your time and contributions

Leicestershire / Perkins pre-census
« on: Friday 21 April 23 19:15 BST (UK)  »
Dear Reader...

Thank you for your time :)

I have, so far, confidently traced my 'Perkins / Perkyns' line back to a Samuel Perkins (1761 - 1798 Market Harborough) however, after recently revisiting my 'Perkins' family tree, I have stumbling across Woodborough's Hertiage (link below)
http://www.woodborough-heritage.org.uk/chapterxiv-woodboroughhall.html

On review of the details, I am eager to avoid any assumed family conections through Ancestry etc which seem to collectively connect to the Woodborough's heritage, and / or split the family line into Berkshire / Derbyshire.

Can anyone offer any advice regarding confirming or even finding records pre-1700's which could provide confirmation of lineage?

My family can be confidently traced from either side local to Ashby de la Zouch / Market Bosworth, and Coventry while also spanning out across the Midlands, but also as far out to Devonshire & County Durham.

Please ask for more details, I've deliberately simplified this post for the ease of the reader ...

Cheers!

The Common Room / The hunt for the missing father!
« on: Tuesday 18 April 23 15:33 BST (UK)  »
Hey gang!

I present to you the following timeline, in the hope that we can find any subsequent occupancy, births, marriages, or a death for this ellusive individual. in continuation of the man who was William Henry Pritchard  :)

THE STORY (SO FAR)...

William Henry Pritchard was born in Byermoor, Tyne and Wear on 6th March 1868. His mother, Mary Pritchard (formerly Pickering) and his father George Pritchard married in 1863 at Saint Thomas, Dudley, Worchester, before relocating to Durham. They are listed together in 1871 Census as living  in Havannah, Tanfield, Durham along with new born Mary Pritchard (6mths).

The 1881 Census shows the family listed at 50 Northside, Halfmoon Lane, Tudhoe, Durham, along with Robert (4yrs) and Ezekiel (3mths) Pritchard.

William’s father, George, dies in 1882. His mother Mary remarries to Henry White 1884, where they are listed on the 1891 Census as living at 56 Framwell Gate, St Cutherbert’s, Durham with Robert (now 14yrs) - Ezekiel is listed as living with his older sister Mary, who has married ‘Hall’.

William marries Jane Goundry in 1889. They are listed in the 1891 Census living at 182 Plantation Row, East Hetton, Kelloe Coxhoe, Durham. They later have a daughter Mary Ann Pritchard in 1891 (It could later  be assumed that they later split or have cause to be living apart.)

William is listed in the 1901 Census as single, under the assumed name ‘White’ (perhaps in connection with his mother’s remarriage), where he is residing with Sarah Thompson and her daughter Selina. (The mark of a William White is registered on the birth certificate for Selina Thompson in 1898)*

Meanwhile, William’s wife Jane is listed in the same 1901 Census under her maiden name Goundry, living with her mother Ann, and brothers James and George. William and Jane’s daughter Mary Ann is still listed as Pritchard.

*The mark of William White is registered on the birth certificate for George William Thompson in 1906. A birth certificate for Robert Pritchard Thompson, in 1903, only lists the mother as Sarah Thompson.

William Pritchard is listed in the 1911 Census as married, visiting with his sister Mary (Hall) and her family at Wallsend, Northumberland, aged 43, coalminer ‘hewer’ - responsible for loosening the coal from the bed.

Your collective help has already been amazing and greatly appreciated thus far!

Thank you in advance for your time and particiaption  :)

The Common Room / Help with locating Durham and Irish decendants, mid 1800's
« on: Sunday 08 January 23 14:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all  :D

This post may look familiar to some, as I have references my previous post below https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=868512.0

For fresh eyes and brains, I'm a bit stuck with my Thompson line and would appreciate any and all insights and suggestions if you could be so kind.

Outline / Timeline

I've listed the details I currently have obtained from GRO birth, death and marriage certificates, and with kind direction from the people in my previous thread (above)

George William Thompson: Born 14th August 1906 (my great grandad)
Mother: Sarah White formerly Thompson / Father; William Henry White
Registered Address: 11 Bantling Old Row, Iveston, Durham
On the 1901 census, Sarah Thompson is a servant of William White, and has a daughter Selina. William White's mark is also on Selina's birth cert' 1898. *I have not found any record of a marriage between Sarah and William

Sarah 'Thompson' was actually born Sarah Clark 1876 (courtesy of @Heywood)
Mother: Ann Clark formerly Hagan / Father: William Clark
Registered Address: Billy Row, Crook, Durham

*Ann Hagan and William Clark also had Mary Ann Clark (June 1879), and Catherine Clark (Feb 1881). I have a death cert for William Clark's  death in June 1880 - he had chronic pneumonia for 2 years.

This is where it gets puzzling (for me)!

Ann has another daughter, Elizabeth Thompson (1886), with William Thompson, as per the baptism recorded (found by @ChrissieL) https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:CNW8-XRMM

However, on review of the GRO birth certificate, the mother is named Mary Thompson formerly Thompson (confusing, right?!) The registered address is 26 Stanley Colliery, Crook.

*Could Ann Hagan's full name be Mary Ann Hagan? I have a death certificate in 1891 for Ann Thompson who died of 'general dibility over 4 years'.

Lastly, I have the details of William Clark and Ann Hagan's marriage in June 1875 which lists;
William's father: Joseph Clark (deceased) / Ann's father: Francis Hagan (deceased)

Summary

I would love to get to the bottom of why William Clark's daughter's all seemingly adopted the surname 'Thompson' if William Thompson and Ann Hagan didn't marry?

Also, I would like to trace William Clark's family back further, and Ann Hagan's Irish family roots.

If you've made it to the end of this thread then thank you for your time!  :)

Hello all,

I have recently followed my family history, through the surname Thompson, living around Durham in the 1850's and onward.

Specifically, following my paternal line, I have discovered a William Thompson (circa 1854) living at 20 Grahamsley, Crook & Billy Row, Durham, in the 1881 Census, together with his wife Ann (circa 1855), who is noted to have been born in Monaghan, Ireland.

The 1871 Census also names three children, Sarah (circa 1876), Mary Ann (circa 1879) and Catherine (circa 1881). However, on review of their GRO Index results, the mother's maiden name is different for each child.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any record of a marriage between a William Thompson and any of the registered maiden names for each of his children. I only know, through searching the GRO for children listed in subsequent census' that William maries again in 1982 following the death of Ann in 1891.

Unfortunaltely, Ann's death certificate does not list her maiden name or parents, so I am finding it a challenge to research this line of the family any further.

William was a coal miner at North Pit Colliery throughout 1891 - 1911, as per the census'. I only know, from his marriage certificate of 1892, that William's father was John Thompson who is marked as deceased.

I seem to have exhausted the GRO and Census options, and would really appreciate any guidance which could help with any of the above...I have also attached my tree to this for more information

Fingers crossed and thank you in advance for any help :)
