Herefordshire / Ancestry.govt.uk for hereford 1927 to 1935
« on: Sunday 08 October 23 05:51 BST (UK)  »
When I look on ancestry.govt.uk for electoral rolls for Hereford i can only find ones from 1960 under Gloucestershire.  I am wanting to search Hereford electoral rolls for the period around late 1927 to 1935.  I am searching from overseas so am not able to physically go to look at old electoral rolls.  I am also aware there were electoral boundary changes.

The Common Room / 1910 UK outgoing passenger list
« on: Thursday 21 September 23 20:10 BST (UK)  »
In Ancestry UK I am unable to find Norman Nicholas Falla on an UK outgoing passenger list in 1910.  However there is an entry on an Canada Incoming Passenger Lists so he entered Canada arriving 1 August 1910 on the SS "Lake Champlain" (a Canadian Pacific Line Ship) which sailed from Liverpool England to Quebec, Canada.  Norman would have departed Liverpool, England around early July 1910.  Usually I have been able to find an outgoing/departure entry and a corresponding incoming/arrival entry.  Norman was 22 years old and was born on 13 August 1888 in Durham, England.

I do not understand why there is no corresponding entry of departure if there is an arrival entry?  Any thoughts?

Canada / return to UK from Canada
« on: Saturday 26 August 23 07:16 BST (UK)  »
I have a family member who married in July 1910 but a month later in August 1910 left UK for Quebec, Canada.  I can not find a record of his return from Canada to the UK sometime in 1911 or 1912 but he had a son in June 1913 in the UK.  He is noted as father so has to be back in the UK at the latest by September 1912.  His wife stayed in the UK during this period and she had a illegitimate child (born January 1912) while Husband was in Canada, and on the 1911 England and Wales Census she is noted as a single servant, not acknowledging she is married but has been married for a while at that time.
I am aware Canada does not have good records of those outgoing from Canada at this time.  I was hoping UK would have a record of him as an incoming passenger.
Any suggestions?

Herefordshire / electoral registers
« on: Thursday 24 August 23 09:15 BST (UK)  »
I have a family member who lived in Ross-on-Wye, Hereford in the 1930s.
I would like to locate this person on electoral registers but am not very sure of which electoral register area that I should be searching - I have located another family member in London Electoral Register for example.
What is the best electoral register to search on for Hereford in the 1930s?
I am aware there have been constituency and boundary changes.
I would like to search the correct electoral register for the 1930s period.
Hope this is not too confusing and that I have been clear about what I am looking for.
Thanks

The Common Room / reason for deportation from Canada in 1927
« on: Monday 14 August 23 00:03 BST (UK)  »
Undertaking Research ...

Family members (English born citizens) were deported from Canada around April 1927 and returned to London, England.  Father, Mother + 2 children.  (children were only aged 6 + 4 at time of deportation)

I would like to find out the reason why they were deported back to England.  Did they overstay? Is there some other reason they were deported?  Visa reasons?

I have the passenger list of the voyage Halifax to London which lists the family but unfortunately is does not say or give a clue as to why they were deported.  (It was suggested to me that the passenger list may help).

It does seem likely that I will not be able to find out this information as it either does not exist (records were not kept) or no longer exists (destroyed for example).

Any other suggestions or ideas?

Vicki
