Australia / Daniel Hext Rowland/s 1884 - 1958 Queensland Australia
« on: Friday 15 April 16 21:21 BST (UK)  »
It has been a while since I have been here!   I am looking for anyone connected to the Daniel Hext Rowland/s family.

Daniel was born in 1884 and died in Herberton Queensland in 1958.  Siblings were May Mary, John Henry, William, Rosalie, George, Ada, Charles and Edward W - all I assume born in Australia.

Daniel's father was also Daniel Hext Rowland/s and if I am correct he was the son of John Rowland and Keziah Hext from Ashburton Devon, England.  Daniel Snr may have emigrated to Australia around 1863 (he was born in 1841).  Daniel Snr was the brother of my husbands Great Grandfather.

Thanks!

Canada / COMPLETED Canadian Shipping List 1911 William John Rowland (sailed from the UK)
« on: Saturday 06 September 14 17:09 BST (UK)  »
I believe William was on board the ship "Scotian" that arrived in Canada in April 1911.  He would have been 24.  Born in Newton Abbot, Devon.

I think he is listed as Wm John Rowland.

I am wondering if there is any additional information?  Such as occupation?  I have never seen the original/on line documents.

William just seems to disappear once we comes to Canada, so I am starting from scratch trying to find him.   The only info I am aware of is that he worked on a farm in Clarkson, Mississauga at some time in the mid twenties.  (Memories from my late father in law, his newphew).

Other than that, have no idea what happened to him.  :( I haven't found him going back to the UK to join up for the war - as yet.  (His brother did return and we've found all his details.)

ANY little smidgen of info would be fabulous!

Thank you.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1851 - 1861 & 1891 Census Look up - SAMUEL DAVIS
« on: Tuesday 02 September 14 18:37 BST (UK)  »
Samuel Davis b 1837 (I believe) and christened in 1841 St Johns, Liverpool (parents Thomas and Elizabeth).

I am a little confused with this ancestor!  Firstly his age, it seems to change here and there.
While born in Liverpool, he eventually lands down in Bristol, I believe married to Sarah Ann.  I thought I found their marriage, but it stated 1875.  So I could be barking up the wrong tree there.
Her maiden name would be Pullen.

The children they have in the 1881 census:

Albert b 1869, Annie b 1873, William b 1876, Fred b 1878 and James (Jas) b 1880

The children look like they are born all over the place too.

I am trying to find him in the above census records mostly to make sure I have the right info and the right family as their son William Davis b 1876 appears to be my Great Grandfather.  (On his marriage info I found his father is listed as Samuel.)

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / WILLIAM LORD - Whitehaven - birth 1804
« on: Monday 01 September 14 02:21 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if someone can help with regards to a William Lord, born in 1804 in Whitehaven.  I am trying to find his parents.

He married a Harriet Wedlock in 1830, they had a son also William, in 1831.  Both of these people were born in Watchett Somerset.

William senior was first a 'mate', then a 'master mariner' - I am assuming his work took him down to the Bristol area. (This is where the rest of the Lord clan were born and bred.)

Any info greatly appreciated.

I am trying to sort out who's who in this particular branch of the family.  My ancestor is Mary Ann Lambley b 1854/55 in Ipswich. I am unsure if Benjamin and Sarah are her parents, as they would have been in their 60's when she was born.

I have thought that she is the daughter of Elizabeth - who shows up on the 1861 census as a widow (b 1831), with Thomas 10, Mary Ann 6 and George 3.  (Elizabeth and Thomas appeared on the 1851 Census with Benjamin and Sarah).

The other children in 1851 - Another Mary Ann 25, Anna 16, Maria 12, Charlotte 9, John 8, David 3 and of course Thomas 3 months.

I guess I'm trying to figure out if Elizabeth is the mother, or sister of Mary Ann. Maybe she was never married and used 'widow' to be respectable?

I didn't really question it til I was entering the info in my 'tree'.

If anyone could help, that would be brilliant.  I guess it's the family relationship I'm after.

Thank You!

Glamorganshire Completed Lookups / 1891/1901 Census - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 08 February 11 19:51 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping someone can help me find John and Elizabeth Challis.  I have their 1881 Census details as shown below, but now am trying to find them in 1891/1901 as in 1911 Elizabeth appears to be living with my great grandfather (Henry) and I am hoping to find out if John Challis was his relation, or if it was merely coincidence that they shared the same name.   (I have never been able to find my 'Henry' anywhere, but if I can fit this couple  into the picture, it might help a bit!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Here is the 1881 info

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / 1891 Bristol Lookup - Brooks COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 22 July 10 18:14 BST (UK)  »
could someone kindly do a Bristol 1891 census look up for me.

I am trying to locate Mary Ann Brooks b Q4 1876. - in Bedminster Bristol.

I can't locate her on the 1881 census so wondering if she might appear on the 1891 census as she married in Bristol in 1897.  There seems to be two marriage entries one with 'Brooks', the other with "Brookes', but both on same page and married to same person William Robert Lord.

I currently have no information on parents or possible siblings.  It seems very strange.  I even tried to look outside of Bristol on the 1881 census, but it's all just so vague.

Thanking you in advance.
