Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Hull Parish Registers 1980's
« on: Friday 26 June 15 13:58 BST (UK)  »
Have Birth Index for David J M Nov 1988 Hull and Katie H M Aug 1986 mother's maiden suname B, both births Hull District.
Other than sending for Birth Certificates where to find BAPTISM registers to confirm parents (assume both same)
Tough one ?

A cousin in Australia has a baptism certificate dated 23 February 1923 of her mother.
Apparently in Oz they also record witnesses for such occasions and she has asked if there would be any similar record to compliment the baptism certificate. I assume not but maybe there could be?

1901 Thorne Census RG13/4418/113/page 7:-
Robert Lawrence 58 retired barge/waterman
Sarah A Lawrence wife 47
Alice 13 daughter born Thorne
Albert son 10 born Thorne.
--------------------------------
I know Robert died 26.11.1901 buried 29.11.1901 St. Nicholas Thorne and believe his wife Sarah died much later in 1935 at Bentley age 81.
Have searched high & low but cannot find any reference to his wife Sarah, or children Alice & Albert in 1911. Alice could have married but cannot find any suitable options. Neither can I find any deaths of Alice or Albert. To add further confusion in 1891 Thorne census there is also Mary A age 1 with mother Sarah but no trace since. Always a possibility Alice & Mary A are one of the same but there are different birth registrations to contradict this.
------------------------------------
Certainly Sarah has to be somewhere? hopefully did not remarry which would be for the 3rd time! but confident the death as above in 1935 is correct.
------------------------------------
Everything points to mistranscribing in 1911. Have tried LawrAnce but still cannot find them.
Any help appreciated.

« on: Friday 28 May 10 10:40 BST (UK)  »
The whereabouts of Ernest in th 1901 census eludes a friend.
Born Leeds 2.12.1897 Reg Qtr March 1898 (illegitimate to mother Lavinia Booth born 1879 but father shown as George deceased butcher on marriage of Ernest!)
History known other than who brought him up as cannot find in 1901 census, Not with mother, she's a domestic in 1901 census, not with grandparents.

This continues to elude me:-
John Ashton born 10 Jan 1845 Hull Bpt 28 Dec 1845 Louth
Parents Francis ashton & Caroline - IGI C026282
No doubt about birth is Hull, siblings also born Hull taken back to Louth for baptisms.
1851 Hull Census Age 6 with widowed father Francis of Higsons Court.
1861 Hull Cenus Age 15 with widowed father of Blanket Row
1871 Age 25 (assume this is him born Hull) lighterman of 23 Annis Street
Mary A wife age 25 born Hull
John W son age 2 born Hull
1881 Hull Census Age 35 lighterman of 1 North Walls/Lowgate
Mary A wife age 35
John W son age 12
Birth Reg. of son believed to be John William Ashton Qtr Sept 1868 Sculcoates 9d 153
NOW THE PROBLEMS!:-
Cannot find a marriage for John Ashton and Mary A....to coincide
Cannot trace any of them in 1891 census!?
Cannot find a death for John (Snr) 1881-1891
Cannot find a marriage for Mary A Ashton (IF john died)
Maybe they didn't get married?
Maybe they emigrated?
Any help appreciated

1871 Alveston Census:-
George Weeks 30 born Hinton Wilts
Mildred -"- wife  30 born Cromhall Gloucs
William son 11, Henry son 6, Robert son 4, Thomas son 2 all born Alveston.
Ages of George/Mildred mistranscribed because all later censuses suggest ages of both about 37 in 1871:-
1881 George 48
1891 George 57
1901 George 65

Problem is I can't find a marriage of George Weekes or Weeks to a Mildred. Tried the obvious routes Free BMD, LDS but nothing.

Any help appreciated

Looks like I will struggle with this one, possibly only BT's available?
Anyone going to Beverley Archives?
Would appreciate a lookup of following:-

Looking for anymore details other than on IGI M107481:-
John Newton married Sarah Hinsley 18 May 1826 at Holy Trinity Hull - bride's parents Thomas Hinsley & Sarah Dealtry.

Ideally hope to find John Newton as a widower?

It is believed John's first wife Ann nee Hinsley was the sister of Sarah Hinsley also d/o Thomas Hinsley & Sarah Dealtry

Ann Newton (nee Hinsley bpt 27 Dec 1793 Snaith ) died in 1824 age 30 buried 17 May 1824 St. Mary's Catholic Church Snaith.

Was it not against the law in 1800's to marry one's wife's sister?
This may explain why John's 2nd marriage was in Hull (out of Snaith area?)??

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Carlton juxta Snaith burials 1824
« on: Saturday 14 November 09 10:14 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the above?
I know where they are e.g Doncaster Archives but not visiting for some time.
Looking for info on burial of Ann Newton who died 17 May 1824, hopeful the record will show her age to give year of birth which again hopefully will lead to parents.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / James Downing 1891-???? first marriage?
« on: Friday 14 August 09 18:26 BST (UK)  »
For a friend:-
James Henry Downing born M/C district 16.05.1891
Known facts:-
1911 census single age 20 tram guard.
Known 2nd marriage (widower) to Isabella Nicol Elliott 3.03.1935 London when he is believed to have been a hotel chef.
unknown 1stmarriage??
Both 1901/1911 census have him as James Downing. no Henry or H.
Free BMD has 5 possible marriages as James H Downing between 1912-1935 (2nd marriage) but 'Evans' Qtr Sept 1912 not the right one.
No Free BMD marriages of James Henry Downing.
Dozens of James Downing marriages for same period.
Probably really need a family connection?
Anyone out there?
