Lanarkshire / Rev William McKean Campbell found in biscuit tin!
« on: Tuesday 13 February 07 09:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Thanks to my great grandma Rosina Campbell, I have a few very old   but undated newpaper articles  (ie early 1900s) which  have been uncovered in an old biscuit tin! They describe the career of Rev William McKean Campbell from Bishopbriggs, Lanarkshire. In particular, the Boquhanran parish church  and the Kirkpatrick Durham parish church are mentioned.
I'm more than happy to share them with anyone who is researching Rev WM Campbell, so don't hesitate to contact me. :)

Armed Forces / Help! What was the City Guard??
« on: Tuesday 13 February 07 07:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
Hoping some knowledgable person will be able to help me as I'm a bit stuck.  I've managed to trace my family tree back to  John Campbell, who in 1762 was a soldier in the City Guard in NewKirk parish. I know this was his occupation as it was stated on the OPR Midlothian Proclamations /banns & marriages when he married Christian Stuart on 25th July 1762.  As the OPRs are pretty useless for parent names etc, this appears to be as far as I can go back with this particular ancestor. I"m probably clutching at straws here, but I'm hoping that if I find out what the City Guard was, I can use this as a line of enquiry..

Any help most appreciated,
Cheryl

Lanarkshire / Does anyone know where Annfield, Bishopbriggs is/was?
« on: Monday 29 January 07 07:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

An ancestor of mine, Alexander Campbell, was described in a newspaper article  at the time of his death as formerly of Annfield, Bishopbriggs. Also several of his children were noted as being born at Anfield Cottage, Bishopbriggs in the mid 1800s.  Does anyone know where Anfield/Annfield is or was, obviously somewhere near Bishopbriggs?
Any ideas appreciated.

Buteshire / Does anyone know where Cawder is/was?
« on: Monday 29 January 07 06:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
My ancestor, Alexander Campbell, died at a place called Cawder, Craigmore,Rothesay around 1900. I've located Craigmore, near Rothesay, but I'm at a loss to work out where Cawder is!  Was it the name of a village, a farm or a house?
Any ideas would be greatly welcomed!

Ayrshire / Rev James Montgomery Crawford - old newspaper articles
« on: Saturday 27 January 07 06:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,
I wasn't sure where to post this, but as The Rev James Montgomery Crawford was born in Ayr on Nov 19 1864, the son of Robert C. Crawford, I thought the Ayrshire forum was my best bet.

For anyone who is researching the Crawfords from Ayr, I have a number of old newspaper articles concerning the death of the Reverend JM Crawford in 1927. His wife was Martha Bowman Campbell(my ancestor). I've recently come across a collection of old newspaper cutouts since my grandmother's death as her mother was a stickler for keeping old newspaper articles concerning the family.

So, if anyone is  researching the Crawfords, please contact me.

Ayrshire / Crosshill farm?
« on: Thursday 03 August 06 03:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi all.  My ancestors, Alexander Campbell,(1808-1878)  and his son Alexander Campbell (1833-abt 1890) and HIs son Robert Campbell (1865 - 1951) all lived Crosshill farm where they had 75 acres.  I am trying to locate where this farm might have been. On a  mid 1800s census it states its address as 'on the side of Glasgow/Kerkinlilloch(sp???) Road"  in the parish of Cadder, Lanarkshire.  Would anyone have any idea of how I could find out such speicific info as this?
