Technical Help / 1911 Census
« on: Tuesday 27 October 09 08:11 GMT (UK)  »
Some time ago I contacted the 1911 customer support team to ask if I could use their site as I am a Mac user.  The answer came that they don't support Macs but from past experience they knew the browser Firefox worked on Macs.  Can any Mac user tell me if this is correct?  I would like to take out a subscription but am wary in case I waste my money.

Thanks,
Jennie

I'm doing some research for a friend in an area I'm not familiar with so can anyone please tell me if the St Giles in the Fields, Middlesex (1851 census) is the same place as St Giles, Camberwell, London.

Thanks,
Jennie

I am having a 'big' birthday this Dec and was hoping to get the NBI on disc as a pressy.  I recently contacted one supplier who tells me they cannot supply a Mac compatible version.  Does anyone know if it is available anywhere please?

Can anyone tell me if the village of Garthorpe, Lincs is missing from Ancestry for the 1841 census?  I cannot seem to find anyone living there even when I just put 'John' in for a search.

Thanks,
Jennie

Lincolnshire / Missing census page
« on: Sunday 09 March 08 19:48 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to census pages from anywhere other than Ancestry?  I was looking for Walker b 1822 and Mary Chafer b 1824 who lived all their lives in Alkborough, Lincs, so expected to find them there in 1891.  As I was searching I found Albert Chafer age 15, who I also have in my tree, but Ancestry gave different parents to what I have - completely different family.  I soon realised a page was missing and suspect that is the page Walker and Mary is on.  Ref is RG12/2627  Fo: 93 Pg: 4 (although Ancestry says it is page 3).  Page 3 is missing.  Hope someone can help.

Thanks,

Jennie

Lincolnshire / Census Page
« on: Wednesday 20 February 08 20:16 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please try to access a census page for me?  On Ancestry I can only see the top two names and then I get some weird grey lines on the rest of the page.  The ref is: RG11/3286  Folio: 36  Page: 7.  I hope someone has better luck!!

Thanks,
Jennie

RG12/3922  Folio: 108  Page: 39  Walter Blackburn (mistranscribed as Blackham) age 14.  Does it really say 'Bra Finishers Apprentice'?  Would young men really work with ladies underwear in 1891?  Or does it say Brass but cannot see the rest of the word for the heavy pen mark?
