Staffordshire / UTOXETER LADY MENTIONED IN WILL
« on: Friday 10 May 24 15:05 BST (UK)  »
This lady was left some money by Millicent Mildred Bailey 1780-1843 who was housekeeper to a South Wales landowner.  She was hr step-mother.  Can anyone decipher the name?  If anyone knows anything about Millicent that would help as well.  She appears to have had a lot of money for a housekeeper.

Glamorganshire / Records for sailors
« on: Friday 01 September 23 13:42 BST (UK)  »
My great-grandmother's brothers were in the merchant navy.  William was born 1831 Laugharne and George 1834 Llandawke.  I lost track of them both after 1851 but recently found William getting married to a Maria Davis (she was then a widow named Chewings) in Cardiff in 1856.  William, George and Maria are not to be found (at least by me) on the 1861 or subsequent censuses.  I can't find them on local sailing records or emigration data.  Deaths at sea is one I haven't checked.  Is there such  a record?  Any ideas welcome.

Staffordshire / MARRIAGE AT KINVER
« on: Tuesday 18 July 23 15:38 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the marriage at St. Peter's, Kinver on 26th August 1822 between William Collins and Lydia Linnecar.  I'm wondering if there are any more clues on the original record.

Anglesey / PARRY family of Amlwch
« on: Sunday 01 May 22 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Richard Parry was married in Amlwch in 1782 to Catherine Williams.  He had two daughters, Catherine born c1798 who married Robert Evans, copper smelter, in 1820, and moved to Cwmavon in Glamorgan; and Mary born c1799 who married John Thomas in Cwmavon.  Both families have descendants in Australia, many of whom are known; but we do not have much information about them in Anglesey.  If anyone is tracing this family I would be delighted to exchange information.

Glamorganshire / Royal Navy Surgeon
« on: Monday 26 April 21 11:25 BST (UK)  »
Is there any free on-line site for Royal Navy surgeons.  I am trying to find information about John Davis who was born in Neath c1790 and died in Bristol 1864.  He had retired from the navy by the 1841 census and lived in Bristol.  He married Mary Morgan Gronow and was the father of Gronow Davis VC.

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Tithe Map Schedule Kidderminster
« on: Wednesday 09 October 19 14:22 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the Tithe Map Schedule round Kidderminster?  My direct ancestor William Collins (1799-1868) lived in Stourbridge Street and was a house and land agent and sometime a teacher.  However on his daughter's birth registration in 1839 he is shown as FARMER.  This suggests that he held some land in the area either as owner or tenant.  I would be very grateful if someone can locate this on the Tithe Map.

Worcestershire / HIBBERT-GREENWAY
« on: Monday 12 August 19 14:21 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to track down members of the HIBBERT family from Neath in South Wales.  Eleanor Kenway Hibbert, born 1906, was living at Malvern Wells when she changed her surname by deed-poll to GREENWAY.  When her father died in 1957 she is shown on his will as wife of John Robert Greenway though I have no record of the marriage.  Her father became a Quaker.

Norfolk / BENJAMIN FRENCH, mariner
« on: Tuesday 21 May 19 08:48 BST (UK)  »
At the start of the 19th century four brother came to Swansea from Yarmouth - Benjamin, John, James and Samuel.  They were sons of Benjamin FRENCH a mariner who in 1768 had married Mary LANDIFIELD.  Something traumatic must have happened for them all to move so far.  The family had money as Benjamin junior bought a small estate and John and James leased small farms.  I haven't been able to find more out about their parents and am trying to discover where the money came from.  No will located so far for Benjamin senior.  Is there any record of land ownership around Great Yarmouth?  Any help appreciated.

Westmorland / Far from home
« on: Monday 22 April 19 08:46 BST (UK)  »
I write occasional articles for a church magazine on persons buried at Cadoxton near Neath, South Wales.  One such is John HADWEN 1753-1827.  I have found he was baptised in Kendfal son of Benjamin and Emma, married Hannah APPLEBY of Durham and had two children christened again in Kendal.  Is this family well known in Kendal.  I have some data on the family in South Wales but very little about heir time up north.  Any info much appreciated.
