Midlothian / Scots College, Edinburgh, Scotland -COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 12:49 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if someone had access to, or knows anything about ;-

Enrolment records from Scots College, Edinburgh, Scotland.
l believe in the year of 1856 William, James and David HARPER were enrolled pupils of that institution. l have no information apart from that they were enrolled that year, and was hoping there may be record somewhere with perhaps information of the children. ( home address, parents, occupations, etc.)
In 1851, the family was noted as living in Campsie Stirlingshire, and was just wondering exactly what year they may have started, finished, and perhaps even moved to be near the school.

Anything at all found would be a greatful addition to my research.
My many thanks in advance.

Stirlingshire / HARPER family - CAMPSIE COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 05:50 BST (UK)  »
l was hoping that someone may be able to help with further info on the following family. The details l've been able to put together are as follows.

David HARPER  born Ireland married 20 May 1843 Campsie, Elizabeth FINLAY b.abt 1815 Campsie. (Daughter of Charles FINLAY and Elizabeth MASON).
Children known so far are;-
James Theodore HARPER b. abt 1846 Campsie
William HARPER   b.abt 1844 Campsie
David HARPER    b.abt 1849 Campsie

David, Elizabeth and their sons William and David supposibly immigrated to Canada about 1870?
James Theodore HARPER ended up in Tasmania Australia, first sign of this  is his marriage in 1874.

lt would be great if l could have perhaps any details on births of the above children and perhaps anything on Elizabeth FINLAY and parents.

James Theodore HARPER was suppossibly a "Remittance man", so l'm just wondering if there was anything of this family, and perhaps an incident that James may have been involved in to have him travel to Australia, instead of Canada with the rest of the family.

David HARPER Snr was a bleacher, and his son's bleacher labourers. Anything known on any mill they may have worked at would be an added bonus.

Thanking you in advance for any help.

The Common Room / "S S Tambra" and BOAG
« on: Wednesday 16 August 06 05:39 BST (UK)  »
l'm not quite sure where to post this query. Hope someone can help.

My George BOAG, l've found on the 1881 Census Ships in Port at Birkenhead, Cheshire. He is listed as a AB Seaman U19. The Vessel he was on - "S S Tambra".

It notes he was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.

l wanted to somehow find out some more on him, but cannot find anything on him nor this ship he was on.

l do have him in Tasmania, Australia in 1890, as this is when he married. l can't find his arrival to Australia either.

Quite a mystery man...

Has anyone any ideas to where to look, or can you help in anyway..?
Anything will be greatly appreciated.

Completed Leicestershire Lookup Requests / 1841 census Look up. PATTISON
« on: Thursday 10 August 06 05:55 BST (UK)  »
Could l please have a look up done on the 1841 Census for-

Robert PATTISON

He was a Gunmaker by trade.

He was Baptised 1817 in Birmingham, Warwickshire. His family then moved to Nottinghamshire.  He does not appear in 1841 Census in Nottinghamshire, even though his siblings do.
He committed a crime in Leicestershire and was transported in 1843. This makes me wonder if he may have been in this area in 1841.
In 1843 his wife's name was Eliza and he had one child.
l'm not sure whether he was married before this or was single.

l hope you can shed some light.
Thanking you in advance.
