Lancashire / Death look up for Jane Oliver Brown
« on: Wednesday 13 August 08 07:49 BST (UK)  »
Any help with any info on Jane Oliver Brown.

She moved from South Sheilds to Rochdale where she gave birth to John James in 1921. (possibly illigitimate). She was about 44 at the time.

She had been wed to Frederick Maughan Brown but John James was not his son as Frederick was dead by this time.

James Arthur is named on Johns marraige cert, desceased. and as Municipal labourer. Highways dept.

Cant move on with hubbies tree until I find this elusive Grand Father. Have got quite far back with Fredericks line BUT he wasnt hubbies grand father.
Much appreciation to anyone with any info.

Lancashire / DESPARETLY seeking James Arthur Brown
« on: Wednesday 13 August 08 07:42 BST (UK)  »
James Arthur Brown was on my husbands fathers marraige cert as father of the Groom.   other info ...'Municipal Labourer, Highways Dept'  desceased.

My husbands fathers mother was Jane Brown....nee Fairless.
She had been wed to Frederick Maughan Brown but by the time she had John James (aka Jack), Frederick was dead and she didnt name a father on his birth cert. (Illigitimate?)
Maybe she was embarrased and just gave John false info on his dad?
But if James Arthur Brown really existed, that would be great!

Date of Johns birth was 1921 So James Arthur (if he existed) was certainly alive in 1920. Jane was 44 when she had John so James Arthur could have been of similar age?

Jane had moved from South Sheilds to Rochdale where John was born.
Did she move to save face?
Any help please.

Family History Beginners Board / Can I locate a person by occupation?
« on: Sunday 20 April 08 15:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi
the person I am looking for info about was James Arthur Brown.
He was listed as John James Browns father, on Johns marriage cert, although not listed on Johns birth cert.
James Arthur brown was listed as Municipal Laborer -Highways Dept (deceased), On Johns wedding cert.
Johns mother- Jane Oliver Brown was from South Shields. She was living in Rochdale at Johns birth(full address available).
Don't let the last name of Jane fool you.... she was previously wed to a Frederick Maughan Brown who appears to have died before Jane moved to Rochdale and had John.
What i would like to know is can James Arthur be traced through his occupation? How do I go about it?
Many thanks in advance.

Lancashire / James A Brown. ROCHDALE?
« on: Thursday 03 April 08 07:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
A bit of a mystery......any help welcome

JOHN JAMES BROWNs birth cert has NO father listed.
His marraige cert has his father as James Arthur Brown (dec) Municipal Labourer (highways dept).

James Arthur Brown wasnt wed to Johns mother JANE OLIVER BROWN (nee FAIRLESS).... Jane had been wed to FREDERICK MAUGHAN BROWN (deceased).
Jane was born c.1879, so James could have been of a similar age.

Jane was from South Sheilds originally and lived in Newcastle area....however when John James was born in 1923 she was living in Rochdale! She would have been about 44/45 by this time.

James Arthur NOT Fredericks brother as Fred seems to have been an only child according to various census'

Was James Arthur Brown from Newcastle area or Rochdale? Who was he? The name doesnt help.... too many Browns!
Only other bit of info is the address where James son was born...54 Newbold Street Rochdale......Maybe James Arthur was living there as well? How would I know?
As I say.....any help would be great!
