Lancashire / Walton Park Cemetery, Liverpool
« on: Monday 09 May 11 05:49 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone familiar with Walton Park Cemetery, Liverpool and can say where, in relation to the chapel, would be Row 14 in the "churchyard", grave no.70?

I do not for one moment think that my man would have had a headstone in 1863 (he had no issue and his wife died soon after in the Workhouse) but I would be grateful for approximate bearings.  I do not even know where the chapel is situated in relation to Rice Lane.

Any help in this direction would be most welcome.

With thanks, Jill Statton.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Pontefract Burials
« on: Thursday 24 February 11 01:50 GMT (UK)  »
Can some kind soul please sort my confusion and confirm for me that, despite burials being recorded in the Parish Registers of St Giles, Ponty, the actual interment was in the graveyard of All Saints, Ponty until 1810, when this graveyard was the sole burial ground for the whole of Pontefract?

What happened after 1810 and until the Pontefract Cemetery was opened in 1859?

Where were the burials in St Giles' registers actually interred?

With thanks,

Jill Statton.

Lancashire / William BALDWIN, Burscough Bridge boatman
« on: Saturday 22 January 11 09:50 GMT (UK)  »
Can someone please advise me?

I have read that knowing the boat and place of registration should locate my William BALDWIN in the Public Health registers.  However I cannot find mention of them in the Lancashire Record Office search facility.

Should I be looking elsewhere?

William BALDWIN of Burscough Bridge would have had his own boat about the turn of the century (1900) and I'm told it was called the Douce or Doush or something similar.

Any help appreciated.

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / East Fenton Farm

Does anyone have a photo of East Fenton Farm, please?  I read somewhere that one of the Barns was burnt down a few years ago.  Any local knowledge out there?

Surrey / The Haven, Avenue Road, Cranleigh
« on: Thursday 30 September 10 01:54 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please tell me whether The Haven in Avenue Road, Cranleigh is still standing?  If not when was it likely to have been demolished?

I have two widowed sisters who died in Cranleigh and I suspect that one took over her house from the other.

Mrs Edith FISHER died in 1923 and was of The Haven, Avenue Road, Cranleigh at her death: she is buried in Cranleigh Cemetery.

Mrs Alice O'KEEFFE died in 1938 in Cranleigh but was buried in Englefield Cemetery with her late husband, who also died in 1923.

If anyone has access to a Directory for Cranleigh and would kindly check for this address for around the period 1922-1938, this would help considerably.

Midlothian / St Andrews, Edinburgh 1909
« on: Monday 27 September 10 07:09 BST (UK)  »
Will some kind soul please explain or direct me to a site which shows the District of St Andrews in 1909.

Isabella Edington BLAIR died in 1909 at 2 Catherine Place, Warricton Road [possibly Warriston?] District of St Andrew, Burgh of Edinburgh.  Any ideas where this is/was please?  Also a possible nearby cemetery.

Furthermore, are there any directories for the period online?  Earlier or later, please.

With thanks,

Midlothian / Edington Cottage Hospital
« on: Wednesday 08 September 10 03:15 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone any knowledge of the Edington Cottage Hospital which appears now to be an Aged Care facility?  Was it always so, and when did it originate?  After whom was it named?  Any details appreciated.

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / General Hospital, Haddington?
« on: Wednesday 08 September 10 03:07 BST (UK)  »
John Malcolm EDINGTON lived his life in East Fenton and Gateside, Haddington and died in 1922 at the General Hospital.

Can anyone please tell me where this hospital is likely to have been?  Is it still standing and under the same usage?

Cardiganshire / Aberaeron Inquest
« on: Friday 03 September 10 17:04 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please help me with a fairly recent Inquest into the death of Peter BOUCHER who died on March 13, 2004 in a quad bike accident on a farm in Aberaeron.

Peter was, I believe, a Grantee of a Will of Joan Mary Flavel CARTER who died in 1999 - her Will proved in Cardiff on June 2, 2000.  Joan is a relative of mine but I would like to know what relation Peter was to Joan.

I assume the local newspaper would have continued with the Inquest into Peter's death and any account may provide clues as to who Peter was.  Is there a newspaper index for Inquests?

Contact with Peter's family would be welcome, but anyone with info will have to send me a Personal Message to protect the living.

With thanks,
