London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / BOEG - Adams Place, Southwark
« on: Friday 20 July 07 12:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,

I'm trying to locate any details on a Johannes BOEG (AKA: John Leven BOEG) who immigrated from Amsterdam to London sometime between 1801 and 1819. He was a Timber Merchant at 'Adam Place, High Street, Southwark' between 1823 and 1826 when he was declared bankrupt.

Hi children were baptised at the Grove Independent Chapel in Camberwell between 1819 and 1826, and I've been there to check their records - but they only have the baptism entries. I believe Johan died around 1830 in Southwark.

Absolutely any information or suggested next steps would be much appreciated.

Westmorland / GREENWOODs in Westmoreland
« on: Friday 20 July 07 12:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,

I'm interested in contacting anyone who's got information on any GREENWOOD relatives in these Westmoreland locations;

  • Holmscales in Old Hutton (~1530)
  • Lupton, Kirkby Lonsdale (~1570)
  • Box Tree Farm, Lupton, Kirkby Lonsdale (~1670)
  • Beckside in Lupton, Kirkby Lonsdale (~1690)

There's about 7 generations of Robert GREENWOOD who gradually head South from Holmscales until they arrive in Kentish Town, London in 1830.

US Lookup Requests / 1876 Sctoland - 1880 Pittsburgh ?
« on: Friday 20 July 07 11:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,

I've got a family in Scotland in 1876, who next appear in the US 1880 Census in Pittsburgh, Allegheny. They supposedly had a son born in PA in 1879 (according to the census), so must have emigrated between 1876 and 1879... but I can't find them on any lists! Does anyone have any suggestions, or can offer any help?

The family are; (http://www.devsys.co.uk/George_Walker_1856.pdf)
  • George WALKER (born 1856, occupation Iron Worker or Forger)
  • Annie WALKER ne McCULLOCH (born 1857, occupation Dressmaker)
The 1880 census shows 3 children;
  • Susan Harrison WALKER (born 31 Aug 1876 in Scotland)
  • Alexander WALKER (born ~1878, supposedly in Scotland but I can find no record of it)
  • James McCullough WALKER (born 5 Dec 1879 in PA)

The best find I've managed so far was the State of Georgia, sailing  from Glasgow in November 1879 (http://www.devsys.co.uk/Georgia.jpg). There's an Andrew McCULLOCH (same name as Annies father) and family followed by a Mrs WALKER and her two kids Susan and Alex - BUT, the ages are all wrong (You can't pass Alex, born the year before, off as a 4 year old!). The McCULLOCH children seem to match most of Annies siblings too....

I'm open to any suggestions regarding this family, as I've been stuck on this branch for a couple of years now!  ???

Regards,
John Greenwood.
