The Common Room / grave category
« on: Tuesday 11 August 15 23:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have just been going through some documents and found my grandfathers papers from 1925. My grandma died in childbirth in 1927 the grave papers state that grandad bought a "Third Class" grave. Could someone tell me what exactly "third class did mean?
To my knowledge and according to the grave registar for the cemetery there are two adults and four infants buried in the grave. The papers say that grandad paid £11.9.0d and put £5.0.0d as a downpayment and £1.4.0d every two weeks until paid in full.
The little headstone that is still there, and as a family we all  look after it, was paid for with a repayment of a halfpenny a week!! Sorry for rambling!! thanks for your time in advance JO

« on: Thursday 18 October 12 16:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have just been going through my fathers army photographs. He was in the Tank Reg. Some are obviously taken by other soldiers, and are of several people not just my father. My question is, Is there a place on Roots that I can post them so people could view them and maybe find a relative? Thanks for your time. Jo

The Common Room / has this happened to you
« on: Thursday 18 August 11 20:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi today I got a message from someone who said they were researching the same line in their tree as me. They sent me a link to a website that was an album of photos and inside there were photos of my family that I had never seen but I recognised them. the person sent me several e mails thoughout the day with information about my grt grandfather and his daughter. The places that he mentioned all fitted with what I already knew and events he mentioned did as well. Infact it was all so believable. I gave him access to my tree on ancestry which is a private tree and now I find is on My Heritage site for all to see. I am absolutely devastated. I just wonder has this happened to anyone else and if so have they managed to get the info taken off the My Heritage site?

World War Two / Obtaining records
« on: Tuesday 09 November 10 16:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I want to find out why my father who was in the AFV (driver mechanic).was sent to egypt either just after ww2 or very near to the end. I have read the instuctions for getting the records but since he died in 2005 it would appear they will only tell me what I already know because I have his release book ( class A????) and he has not been dead for 25yrs and it will cost me £30. Also if I do send for the general records am I classed as next of kin? Please could someone make an effort to fathom out what I need to do to get the info regarding Egypt? I would be so grateful.
Also my uncle, who was in the Kings Royal Rifle Corp, was in stalag camp 344 for the duration of the war ( he died in 1979) would his records hold details of his time in the camp? and am I right in thinking I have to apply to the Rifle Corps record office in Winchester. Thanking you so much in advance JO
