World War One / Royal Field Artillery, 1097 Battery
« on: Thursday 26 April 18 19:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Any advice on how I may find any additional information on the following would be welcome:

I recently found my grandfather, Wilfred Adams, on a Leeds Absent Voters List showing that he was serving 222949 GWR Royal Field Artillery, 1097 Battery. I have so far not found his service record, or enrolment record. He survived the war but died in 1939 before I was born

Any additional information or advice on further research regarding the meaning of GWR or the 1097 Battery, in addition as to how I may locate his service history would be welcome

Thank you jack1601

Occupation Interests / Law Clerk
« on: Thursday 03 November 16 21:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have been trying to find any information relating to Law Clerks in the early 1900s.

My grandfather is shown on the 1911 Census with occupation Law Clerk (aged 21) living in Holbeck, Leeds
What type of qualifications would he have needed for this occupation and how long would his training have been? He died long before I was born, so very little information got passed down about his early education or training.

Any help would be appreciated

« on: Saturday 18 July 15 19:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am unsure if Whitgift was in East or West Yorkshire in 1805.

I am trying to find any details of one of my ancestors named Admiral Hanson, who I believe may have died in 1805, probably at Whitgift, Yorkshire

Any help appreciated

World War One / WW1 Leeds Roll of Honour
« on: Monday 03 November 14 18:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I have been trying for some time to locate a Joseph Lee born c1885 in Leeds. On the Leeds Roll of Honour there is listed a Joseph Lee, killed, 1915 with service as follows

R4/089753 Royal Army Service Corps (RASC)

However, I have located a gravestone, at St Peter & St Paul, Ormskirk, Lancashire, showing the same service number but with the following

Private J. Lee, Army Service Corps. Died 10th November 1915, aged 28.

I am confused why it is on the Leeds Roll of Honour, with the burial in Lancashire, but with the same service number.

Any additional information or clarification would be appreciated

Thank you Jack

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / 1901 Lookup
« on: Monday 20 October 14 22:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to find a Thomas R Hanson, born USA, British Citizen. His birth was approx. 1896.

I have located his parents Henry Hanson and Mary Jane Hanson on the 1901 Census living in London with their other son Henry. Both parents were born in Leeds c1869 and had returned from the States for a short period that covered the 1901 Census

I know that Thomas R Hanson had not died by 1901 because I have found him on subsequent USA Census returns. I wonder if he was living with any of his relatives in Leeds in 1901 and would appreciate any assistance

Hi
I wonder if anyone can help me locate the dob or baptism of Thomas Clarkson. His birth was registered in the first quarter of 1857 in Leeds. His parents were Martin Clarkson and Sarah Ashcroft. I have the dob of his father, Martin, and he was christened at Saint Patricks, York Road, Roman Catholic Church, Leeds.

Thank you Jack

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Adams Wilfred, Holbeck Birth
« on: Thursday 23 January 14 20:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am a little confused about the d.o.b of Wilfred Adams of Holbeck. On the Yorkshire BMD I have located a birth registered in 1890, but on Free BMD the registration is shown the first quarter of 1891. I am rather reluctant to order two birth certificates in order to determine which is correct. If anyone with access to church birth records can help me determine the correct d.o.b it would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I am unsure which church it would be. It could be located in Holbeck or Beeston. Subsequent, census returns show the birth in both 1890 and 1891. Also the age at death could indicate either.

Thank you jack

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Leeds 1927 Kelly Directory
« on: Wednesday 06 July 11 17:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am seeking information on Alfred Adams in the 1927 Leeds Kelly Directory.

The 1923 Directory shows him at the Claremont House Hotel, and also listed on the 1911 Census,  Hotel Keeper.

This is to assist in trying to find his death details. Unfortunately, I have two possibilities for his death, one 1925 and the other 1940, both of which give a correct year of birth from the age at death. If he is still at the Claremont House Hotel in 1927, then I can eliminate one of the possibilities.

Thank you
Jack
