Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1841 census Holgate and Lawson in Lancashire
« on: Monday 14 September 09 15:58 BST (UK)  »
My mother-in-law would be mortified to find that her gggrandparents were both illegitimate

1855 Marriage cert says
George Illingworth living Chatburn father John Holgate both farmers
Ann Lawson living Sawley father Gabriel Carter Shopkeeper.

Can anyone find these peple in 1841.  I have the bride and groom in 1851 living in Downham

George was born c1822 Grindleton, mother probably Sarah
Ann Lawson born c1824 Sawley

MaryA found me a lot of Holgates in the area but there doesn't seem to be a John who was a farmer.  It could be made up but a John Holgate was a witness.

Thank  you for your help

Technical Help / recording digital TV
« on: Tuesday 21 July 09 12:28 BST (UK)  »
My old TV broke yesterday so now I have a new one.  It is digital of course.  Now I don't need the digibox and I can't record on my video recorder so I'd like some advice on a new recorder.  I used to record lots of programmes to watch over the week, 4 different evernings up to 4 programmes a night, plus some in the middle of the day which I watched soon after.

What should I buy?  I'm getting a bit slow in my old age so it should be easy to work and watch at sometime.  Do I get a DVD recorder or what?  Any recommendations.

I'm having a clear out!

My family are not really interested in the family history and I feel 25 files will be too much for them to keep when I have gone so I thought I would try to cut it down.  I keep putting it all on CDs and send out to family members every Christmas.  I could  do some more for my children and grandchildren. Trouble is how many years will they last.

I thought I would keep the basic information like certificates and photos.  Also I thought of doing a family tree for each branch and keeping that.  I could print on the back of the paper to cut down.  With a bit of luck I could restrict the paperwork to two files and perhaps a box of extras.

What do you think?

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Giggleswick Parish records COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 11 January 09 12:03 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to marriages in 1821 at St Alkedas Church Giggleswick?

I'm looking for a marriage of Richard Harrison and Isabella Hargreaves supposedly on 29 September 1821.  This is mentioned in a book "The Harrisons of Gisburn" but it not on the IGI excepts as entered by a member of the LDS Church.  It is not on the Hugh Wallis site.  I'm wondering if this is a mistake and could do with a check.

Thank you
