World War One / WW1 / RAMC TF / Cyril Woods / Help … /
« on: Tuesday 04 January 22 14:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hello …

I am wondering if there is anyway to find out if …

Cyril Woods
BIRTH 16 JUL 1894 • Northamptonshire, United Kingdom
DEATH 27 AUG 1946 • Northampton, Northamptonshire

… is Cyril Woods, Acting Lance Corporal in the RAMC TF - 510142 London Field Regiment ( as shown on National Archives Medial Archive WO 372/22/61057 )

and there’s also a record on Ancestry for a Private Cyril Woods in the 183rd  Regiment which Wikipedia says is (2nd Gloucester and Worcester) Brigade - which was made up of “men in the Territorial Force who, for various reasons, did not volunteer to serve overseas when asked at the outbreak of war.”

Is there anyway to discover more?

My Dad (who was adopted) is now 97, and was left a WW1 photo of a unnamed RAMC Acting Lance Corporal, but doesn’t know the name of his father.

Intriguingly, Ancestry DNA shows a possible connection to Cyril Woods in Northampton.

NB: I know Cyril Woods and his brother Melbourne Victor Woods in Northampton - were both Conscientious Objectors (source: British Newspaper Archive) - so I think being in the RAMC is therefore possible.

Any suggestions where I could look?

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Buckinghamshire Bastardy Bonds / 1924 ? /
« on: Saturday 01 January 22 19:38 GMT (UK)  »
Happy New Year … I hope you are all safe & well in such uncertain times.

Would there be Buckinghamshire or Northamptonshire Bastardy Bonds or other record for a child born in 1924?

I know the mothers birth name & child’s birth name & adopted name - but not the fathers name.

Any ideas welcome.

Ancestry DNA is showing connections to Newton Blossomville, and surrounding villages.

Northamptonshire / Have a butchers? Maybe Northampton
« on: Sunday 22 November 20 20:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

The attached photo of a Butchers shop is stuck into a family photo album.

99% of the other photos are from Northampton UK - but we have no idea about this one or how we are connected.

Can anyone tell me if it’s from Northampton?

World War One / Lance Corporal R.A.M.C - Lawson
« on: Sunday 10 July 11 23:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I have attached a photo of a WW1 Lance-Corporal R.A.M.C  - who I believe had the name: Lawson.

I know for certain that he survived WW1.

I don't know for certain if Lawson is his first name or surname, but I suspect Lawson is his surname.

During 1923 he would have been in Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire - possibly Higham Ferrers, Rushden area.

Any thoughts how I can trace him are more than welcome!

Regards,

TD

Hello,

I'm having difficulty in locating a birth record (and GRO reference) for Bertha Annie Collins circa 1901 - Father Thomas Collins, Mother Rachael Collins (nee Tolhust)

Bertha Annie’s daughter told me her mother was born in 1901 in Knockholt or Halstead Kent.

Can anyone see this record ? I can't!  ::)

Regards

NB: I can see Bertha Annie Collins gets married to James Young Scott in June 1926 on the GRO records.
