Cannot find this lady anywhere. She later married Henry Holt about 1800. Any help appreciated. It might be Calverton as she may have married there but….. Thanks

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Getting lost
« on: Thursday 07 May 20 08:14 BST (UK)  »
This sort of topic has no been covered by others, but..frankly I am getting lost and confused. Lockdown??
I have an Ancestry DNA test at Ancestry which I have loaded also to Myheritage, Gedmatch, DNA.land and FTDNA. I find very different matches at each of those sites.
The info about likely origins of my ancestors varies quite a bit, Ancestry misses a complete area involving southern europe which all the others identify. I know that there are lots of doubts about using DNA for finding out about this sort of thing, it does not really surprise me therefore.
But..I have a very interesting match originating from an Ftdna Y-37 test which is mirrored at Gedmatch. It appears to be one which MAY have southern European roots. I have been trying to sort this out for ages but I cannot pin it down. Its also one of many where the originator is uncommunicative!
So...the question....as my target match took a Y-37 test does it mean that I must match to someone in his direct paternal line, i.e his father, fathers father etc etc or can it come from a side branch of his family?
This may be a totally stupid question, frankly thats where I am at the moment!
Can anyone help me out of my confusion?

One Name Studies: N to S / Skitterell in Wiltshire
« on: Saturday 13 October 18 16:23 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am trying to find possible origins for this surname and of course its multitude of variants. Skittral, scittral etc etc. I can find nothing in the various dictionaries of surnames and no real info on the internet.

It seems to be a name prevalent in Wiltshire and in particular in Burbage and the Calne areas. The name does not seem to be much understood outside those areas. I have an ancestor that I have been trying to identify for many years. Lately I have proved that his name has been changed through Skeet, Skitt and to Skeats as he moved out of Wiltshire. DNA has proven this conclusively.

I now want to find out where the name comes from in order to see where the family line may come from or whether it isa local corruption of another surname.

Thanks

Freya

I wonderif anyone can contribute any info that might help this.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Birth in Bristol
« on: Tuesday 09 October 18 22:18 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any details of a birth of Harriot Louisa Cline/Kline etc in Bristol in or around 1815. On marriage on 7/10/1840 in Bedminster she stated that her fathers name was William Henry Cline. Thats all I can find anywhere although a William Henry Cline/Kline did exist in London married to a Harriet (Haynes) in 1810  but I can see no birth anywhere. Any help appreciated.

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Watson in Westbury
« on: Sunday 09 September 18 13:16 BST (UK)  »
Sorry, tablet playing up. This is a duplicate post.!

Tracing my Watson roots I have found a John born in Oct 1709 in Westbury. I have seen the parish register transcription on freepages.rootsweb which shows an unsure transcription of a john born to david and mary but the name is wetlen or wetlon or werlon. Could be watson as far as I can see. Also nothing else for a david and mary.

I also have a transcription from buckscc on findmypast which has john born same date to edward and mary watson. Consistent with several other births and deaths relating to the same couple.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks
Freya
