I have just received a copy of my G-g-g-g-grandmother's will.
I was always under the impression that she had been born in Ireland but it clearly states that she was born in Scotland (Unfortunately does not state where)  she married a James Ward who was born in Ireland.    I think they must have married in South Africa, probably around 1819-1820.
He was a soldier sent out to South Africa and I think he was a lot older than her not sure if her Dad was also sent out to South Africa in the Army.
Sorry I am so vague, but really do not have much to go on.
Many thanks for any help.

Australia / HOUGH - George (B 1873) & Lionel W. (B 1877)
« on: Sunday 27 December 09 17:29 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for GEORGE HOUGH (b 1873 Portland, Dorset UK) and LIONEL WILLIAM HOUGH (b.1877 Ringstone, Hampshire UK).
These two gentlemen were my grandfather ALBERT EDWARD NORMAN PALMER's half-brothers..
Their father was JOB HOUGH and their mother was EMMA NORMAN (b. 1856 Portland, Dorset UK)
I can recall that my grandfather said that one of them had emmigrated to AUSTRAILIA, but my grandfather was 70 when I was born and died long before I became interested in the family tracing..  EMMA NORMAN was my great grandmother I assume JOB HOUGH died and EMMA married my great grandfather JOHN PALMER in Alverstoke, Hampshire around 1879/1880.
I would really appreciate it if someone could look at the Australian records and try and find either or both of these gentlemen for me.

in the 1891 census LIONEL is in a Royal Navy School where I believe sons of sailors, who had died, were trained and housed.   I cannot find GEORGE in the 1881 census, but he was then 18 so might have emmigrated.

This is all the info I have on these two.
Would greatly appreciate any help.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / PALMER
« on: Sunday 27 September 09 13:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi there
I am hoping that someone can help me here.
My grandfather ALBERT EDWARD NORMAN PALMER was born in 1881 in either PORTSMOUTH OR SOUTHAMPTON.  We have a clock presented to my g-grandfather JOHN PALMER by the DOCK YARD on his retirement (unfortunately I don't have the clock so cannot give date)  My g-grandmother was an EMMA NORMAN and it would appear that they were married in DORSET (not sure though) although my g-grandfather was born in ALVERSTOKE (this according to census)  EMMA's age is incorrect on the 1871 and 1881 census but correct on 1891.  I think JOHN PALMER must have been married before he married EMMA.  I would really like to know 1. JOHN's parents and grandparents and if possible further back :-)  and 2.  was be married before and are there any children from that marraige?
At a stage I had that 2 week free trial on ancestory.com but unfortunately did not make notes :-(   Can someone help?
I would really appreciate it.   I can unfortunately only get onto the net over the weekends.
Many thanks

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / marraige IVINS(IVENS) / CASHMORE
« on: Sunday 24 August 08 18:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi there
Can anyone help me please.
I am in South Africa.
I am stuck with my ELIZABETH CASHMORE who married JOHN IVINS(IVENS) ON 20.5.1845 AT BARFORD, WARWICKSHIRE.   1881 CENSUS GIVES HER PLACE OF BIRTH AS BIRMINGHAM, BUT HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TRACE THIS AND THEREFORE DO NOT HAVE HER PARENTS nor here date/year of birth.
Can anyone help , would also like John Ivin's father and mother names - to confirm whether it is Thomas Ivins and mother Mary.
I would really appreciate some help.

Many thanks,

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / JAMES WARD/JANE MCNEIL MARRIED C1819
« on: Saturday 15 March 08 21:53 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if someone could help me please.
I am looking for info on my g-g-g-grandfather and mother.  I have NO IDEA where they came from in Ireland.
They must have been married before 1820 as they were married when they set sail for South Africa on 12/2/1820.
Somewhere I got that he was born in 1802 don't know if this is so.
They set sail from Cork, although they are not listed on the lists that I have checked.  Two vessels loaded Irish emigrants namely, Fanny and East India.  I believe what could have happened is that they took the place of another family at the last minute.  I am completely in the dark here.   I did a search on another site and they informed that the surname Ward and McNeil could be from Co. Down.  Is there anyone here who could help?

Many thanks in advance.
