Shropshire / any ideas re Harry / Fleet marriage
« on: Sunday 27 December 09 03:31 GMT (UK)  »
have finally located a marriage for Lucy Harry b Ellesmere to a John Fleet . transcription showed a Flett/ Hawry marriage but looking a images it is definitely Lucy Harry and John Fleet. (marriage Ellesmere by the way)

Problem is from there I can see nothing. No deaths, no births to them, no remarriages , no migration records , they seem to have disappeared from the records.
Does anyone have any other suggestions??

Staffordshire completed Look up Requests / 1847 Marriage lookup-completed
« on: Sunday 06 December 09 05:21 GMT (UK)  »
I have hit a brickwall with a descendant and really need someone to look up his marriage certificate and to see if there is a father listed, name of father and if deceased.

The marriage is between Samuel Buffey and Anne Platt, and is in the December 1847 quarter. On Free BMD it is listed as Wolverhampton district ( I think it would have been in Bilston) and  is volume 17 page 419.

If anyone is anywhere near the relevant records office it would be so helpful with thanks ;)

Staffordshire / Mill Meece records for birht of George Taylor
« on: Monday 02 February 09 10:26 GMT (UK)  »
I have hit a brick wall with finding out more information on my Taylor side. George Taylor born (according to number of census) at Mill Meece abt 1842. His marriage certificate states father as Thomas- cannot find a record of this though!
The only George I can find in  1851 who looks a fit lives with  his grandparents in Knutton then as a lodger (possible with aunt Sarah Johnson nee Taylor) through to 1871 census. does not show in 1881 (fits in with him seeing service in India) then shows as married to Martha Gater from 1891 census on.
would really love to know his parents but cannot seem to break through-any ideas please would be most welcome

Shropshire / photo wanted from Ellesmere Shropshire
« on: Saturday 24 May 08 09:06 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone around Ellesmere could do my a huge favour and  get a photo of numbers 12, 14 and 16  Wharf Rd  Ellesmere Shropshire. They were built my by 2 x great grandad and all of his children were born in NO. 16  ( so that one even if not the others?)

I understand that there is a plan to redevelop the area which means that the houses could be gone before I make it to the UK in 2010 and I would hate not to have a photo.

thanks
Sharon

Hi , I am just wondering if anyone can look up a birth certificate for me- that is actually look at it and give me the information?

I have a record of a birth that I have found on Staffs BMD which match's what I need to know but I cannot find the same record on Ancestry , free BMD or IGI records.

I need to know if it is correct or not and don't want to send money and then find it is not really there.

the birth is registered in Wolstanton so i am not sure which records office it will be though I think Newcastle UL not SOT.

anyway if anyone can help please let me know and I will provide the details.

with thanks

The Common Room / need your expert help!!

Martha Gater b abt 1859 in silverdale -Knutton Staffordshire is my direct ancestor.

the problem that I have is this

On the 1861 census John and Martha Gater are living in Chapel St Knutton with a daughter Elizabeth. There is a record of Elizabeth Gater b  1858 and died  1861. There is a record of martha gater b 1859 - I can  then follow Martha through her two marrriages up to when she died in 1919 as Martha Taylor.

my question is where would she have been on the 1961 census. i cannot find her.  ????

other info I have is

Martha married Elisha Downing  1877, i, they married in Wolstanton then  had a daughter  Beatrice in Reading Berkshire.
. Elisha died in Newcastle in 1882.
In 1883 Martha married George Taylor .

marthas first wedding details are
St Mary's Church Knutton Newcastle, Staffs 21/5/1877,
Elisha Downing 34, Bachelor, Miner Married
Martha Gater 18 Spinster (age given as 21 at 2nd wedding in 1883 but there was six years difference between weddings ? I think this was becasue of how the question would have been asked ie are you of age ?) )
Both living in Knutton
Fathers Charles Downing Miner & John Gater
Witnesses John Gater & Emma Coclough.

I have one Samuel Buffey I am looking for .
to data I know the following.
1881 and 1871 he is living in Denbighshire Wales- gives his POB as British subject France and his older children are born in BIlston Staffordshire.
Cannot find him at all in 1861- but have found his wife and 3 children as 'visitors' with another family in Bilston in 1861. I cannot locate him anywhere and believe me I have tried pretty much everything.
1851 I have him- his wife and two children in Union St Bilston living with Samuels cousin Joseph with surname listed as Baffy.

I would love to locate him on the 1841 census- there is a Samuel Baffe there but the wrong age-
I have been unable to find out who his parents are or why he would have been born in France in 1828!!
any information that you can help me with or advice would be greatly appreciated

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Help needed- where to begin?
« on: Friday 22 February 08 00:19 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for information re

Julia Ann Nelson/Neilson born Julia Ann Harry in Dorset in 1860.
In 1883 she married a Carl or Carls Nelson or Neilson at St Silas Lancashire- then they disappear.
i am thinking that Carl maybe a sailor possibly of Danish or Norwegian background  and am wondering what the best way to track if they either emigrated to another country or returned to his place of origin?

I have searched the 1891 Census so have  people better qualified Adan experienced than me and they are not to be found- nor is there any evidence of deaths being recorded in the UK.
any help would be appreciated
