Antrim / James Smyth /Jane Oakman
« on: Friday 13 August 21 13:07 BST (UK)  »
Looking for anyone on  list who has a connection to James Smyth Lisburn, County Antrim.

From the Belfast Newsletter 5 May 1818
On the 1st of May by the Rev.Mr. Higginson. Mr. James Smith of Lisburn to Miss Jane Oakman dau. of Mr. William Oakman of Pigeontown near Glenavy.

Lately at Pigeontown,Parish of Glenavy where he had gone for the restoration of his health Mr. James Smyth of Lisburn, aged 40 He was clerk in the Marquis of Hertford's office for upwards of 20 years. In this situation he conducted himself with such prooriety,  integrity, and faithfulness as merited and obtained the unqualified approbation f those whom he connected. His mild unobtrusive manners and kind obligiing dispositions procured him the estimation and respect of all who came within the circle of his acquaintance . A widow with a very numerous and promising progeny, remain behind to deplore the irreparable  loss they have sustained by the premature death of a affectionate husband and tender parent.

I do not know how many children were born to James and Jane or what happened to the children. I do know Jane remarried to a William English and they immigrated to Canada along with 2 children George and Isabella.

If there should be anyone on list who has a connection to James Smyth or might know how to find the names of the children I would appreciate hearing from you.  Odd that the children did not come to Canada with their mother for whatever reason. Wonder how many she had maybe 5 or more.

Another bit of info on James Smyth/Smith he was baptized Catholic  in  1-9-1789 parents William Smyth and Anne at Dublin,Bray.

I appreciate any help.

Looking for anyone who has a connection to Evelyn Maud Harrod born 1876 Layer Marney, Essex.

Her parents were Hatch John William Harrod and  Sarah Annie Large.

I have checked FreeBMD looking for a marriage or a death record for her but no luck.

She had a sister Mary Agnes Harrod( my grandmother) born 1883,Guildford, Surrey

Clifford Large Harrod born 1871 Bowers Essex

I believe there was another sibling I think her name was Elizabeth DOB unknown I'll have to dig out my records.

I have most of the family information on Mary and Clifford. But very little or none on Evelyn or Elizabeth.

If there is anyone on list who might have a connection to  anyone in this Harrod  famiily I would be delighted to hear from you.

There is a story true or not that the Harrod family may have a connection to Harrods dept. store ??

« on: Friday 28 June 19 15:03 BST (UK)  »

Could someone help me with Ivy Phillips  W57308 L/Cpl who was in ATS in WW2.

She married William Harry Harrod in England in 1945 came to Canada in 1946.

I have passenger records and her family history but am wondering if there might be any military records for her or if any still exist.

I do not know what she did in the ATS. Her husband was serving in the Canadian Army and was granted permission to marry Ivy. William was born in England.
