Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with deciphering Court Document
« on: Monday 02 January 12 20:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm having difficulty in reading the stated offence committed by John (Second on list) as well as the offence deemed to be committed by Peter, Ann, and George Wright (from third on the list).

It appears the last word for the second offence against Peter etc.. may be Felony, however Would be grateful for any other suggestions.

Staffordshire / Fellows - West Bromwich
« on: Sunday 24 February 08 23:00 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for any information on the Fellows family, who lived in the Swan Village area of West Bromwich. My Gt Grandmother was Mary Jane Fellows, born in 1869. Her father was Joseph Fellows and her mother was Mary Morton.

I have several census records for the Fellows, where by it states that Joseph was born in West Bromwich. Going by his age he would have been born around 1837, however on his marriage certificate in 1863, he was 23 years of age, which means he would have been born in 1840.

Joseph's father was stated as Thomas Fellows, and a miner on the marriage certificate. I do have a 1841 census, which has a Thomas Fellows, as a miner, with a son Joseph, however the age of Joseph is 6, putting his birth year at around 1835.

There are no registered births for a Joseph Fellows in West Bromwich for either of these dates.

If anyone knows of this family, is related, or can help me go further back down the fellows line, and help me confirm when Joseph was born, then i'd be grateful.  ;D

United States of America / Thomas Atton
« on: Thursday 21 February 08 22:24 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for help in tracing my Gt Gt Grandfather Thomas Atton. He was born around 1831 in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. He was married to a woman named Mary Ann, and he had three children: William, Martha, Thomas.

Thomas was a stonemason, and there is a story in the family that he left his family to find work in America - however he never returned back to England. This story seems to add up as there are no further Census records for him or even a registered death in England.

I do not know which year he left England, however it must have been after his third child was born in 1870.

Can anyone help me find out what happened to him or if there are are any census records or Death records for him in America? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Staffordshire / Hickman Family of Carters Green / West Bromwich
« on: Thursday 21 February 08 19:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm just looking for general information on the Hickman family that was living in the Carters Green area of West Bromwich. I already know alot of the Hickman's through Census Records and certificates etc...

The earliest known Hickman is Francis Hickman born C1816 who married a Hannah Shorthouse. He had a son also named Francis born 1839 who married a Eliza Small.
The second Francis had a son named Thomas who according to census records was born in 1866, and even by his age at death proves he was born in that year, however I can't find a registered birth certificate for him.

Thomas later married Martha Atton and had my grandmother Phoebe (b.1906) as well as the following:

Florence (1890)
Eliza (1891)
William (1894)
Thomas (1896-1916 - KIA in WW1 with Kings Royal Rifle Corps)
Minnie (1898)
Alfred (1901)

Nothing is really known about my Grandmother's brothers and sisters. If anyone knows of these or can give any life details about them then that would be great.

Worcestershire / Wright family of Dudley
« on: Wednesday 20 February 08 20:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone provide me with any information of the Wright family who were living in Dudley, which as part of the Census was classed as worcestershire.

In 1851 they were living in New Hall Street, Dudley. The head of the family was Joseph who was a Hair Dresser and Perfumer, who was married to an Elizabeth. It states one of their daughters, Sarah Mary Ann who was my gt gt Grandmother. She was a dress maker.

I'm looking to see if there are any known connections with this family.

Derbyshire / Smith Family of Clifton, Derbyshire
« on: Wednesday 20 February 08 17:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for information on the Smith Family of Clifton, who were wealthy Cheese manufacturers in this particular area. The head of the family in 1851 was William Smith and he was married to Elizabeth.

On the 1851 Census it states that there was a servant (Groom) working for this family... this seems to be my Gt Gt Grandfather Henry Rackham. I would like to know anything regarding him in connection with this family, and if any thing still survives with reference to documentation of his service record with the Smith Family.

All being that any information that can help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Suffolk / RACKHAMS in Wrentham
« on: Tuesday 19 February 08 22:51 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for any information on the Rackham family in Wrentham. My great great grandfather Henry Rackham was born there in 1826. His father was Samuel and his mother Mary.

I'm also looking for any known information on a Sarah Mary Ann Rackham who was buried in Wrentham Cemetery having died in 1912. There is a bit of a mystery surrounding this name as my Great Great Grandfather Henry married a Sarah Mary Ann Wright in Tipton (West Midlands) having moved up there. I haven't managed to find any information with regards to a death of her up here in the Midlands after 1901, therefore it makes me wonder if she moved to Wrentham, where her daughter had previously moved to. Both the Sarah in Wrentham cemetery and My Sarah in the West Midlands have the same birth year! Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Also any information on other Rackhams, or if anyone has any pictures of any of the Rackham family in the late 1800's early 1900's would be great.
