Australia / Mary Grant Milne and Nicholas Carroll, Toowoon Bay, Long Jetty NSW
« on: Monday 13 July 15 00:41 BST (UK)  »
Hoping someone may have known of this couple.

Mary Grant Milne married my gg uncle Nicholas Carroll on 17 June 1936 in Sydney. Nicholas was a widower at time of this marriage. Nicholas died 1964 and Mary died 1977,  both in Toowoon Bay, Long Jetty, NSW. Nicholas was originally from Tipperary, Ireland, had spent many years in the British Army and had emigrated to Australia in 1923 with his first wife and daughter, both predeceasing him.

A photograph of Nicholas is the only thing I am missing from this branch of my Carroll tree and I would desperately love to find one.
Can anyone help please?

Dublin / National Library Lookup Please
« on: Tuesday 21 October 14 22:00 BST (UK)  »
I have found a marriage announcement in the Limerick Chronicle Newspaper of 1863, that the marriage occurred on 27 Aug 1863 in RC Church, Marlborough St, Dublin, of Mr Jeremiah O'Rourke of Limerick to Miss Mary Teresa Welsh, daughter of John Welsh, George St, Limerick.

I'm assuming this church was St Mary's Pro Cathedral and have searched the irishgenealogy site to no avail.

If anyone is going to National Archives, would it be possible for a lookup if they have the time please?

Many thanks, Sio

World War One / ?Date of photograph and any help please
« on: Wednesday 20 November 13 04:34 GMT (UK)  »
Wondering if anyone can please estimate a year as to when this photo was taken?

I think this is a Connaught Rangers uniform and am trying to work out if it is a family connection, namely Joseph Carroll, No. 6429, Connaught Rangers 2nd Batt., died 17 September 1914 in Aisne France. One report has him listed as Private, the other as Corporal.

Joseph was born 1878, Templemore, Tipperary and according to a newspaper report had enlisted while "quite a lad", and went through the Boer campaign, being stationed in South Africa on the declaration of war. He apparently was also selected as Drill Instructor to the Irish National Volunteers on their formation.  On the list of UK soldiers died in Great War 1914-1919, it states he enlisted in Birr, Kings Co. I can't find a service record for him online so any ideas on where to locate them would be really appreciated.
