Leicestershire / trying to find a link between two Stretton
« on: Thursday 27 July 23 11:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. have been challenged by my sister to find a link between her mother in-law Rita Stretton b.1938 and Raymond Stretton b.1917.Rita`s family runs Ernest b.1911, William b.1915,William b.1834,Joseph b.1811. I have had a good look at ancestry but can't see any connection, was hoping that perhaps someone on hear with a closer tie to Leicester information and with more skill than I possess might be able to help us out and find a link.
many thanks in advance

The Common Room / substantiating an ancestor
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 12:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
On Ancestry there is a tree for my Family ( Flagg ) that goes back to the 1100  :o.
I have been able to get the tree back to a William Flagg b.1741 But can't find that next step back in time.
William married in 1763 in Somerset would the parish records from this time show the father's name? The marriage is on family search beta site with a source film number  it is also on find my past but no fathers names are mentioned
I have emailed the tree owner several times but have had no response  ( and how frustrating is that !!! >:( a public tree for people to look at and discover distant cousins and they don't reply ).
I would love to belive we could get the family name back to the 1100 but without the proof am not going to copy someone Else's tree
Any advice on getting futher back would be a great help  :)
Many Thanks

« on: Friday 03 September 10 17:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi
is it possible for someone to take the Bower inn back to the late 1800???
I have searched the internet for an old photo and have had no luck.
The building and the gateway would not be there and we know there was gas lamps over the front windows
And the sky banner was probably missing as well  ;D
any help in this would be gratefully received
Many Thanks

Armed Forces / Silver War Badge
« on: Friday 16 April 10 18:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi
on my GGrandfathers medal card for WW1 it has written S.W.B list m/823. I have worked out that it is the Silver War Badge but how do I go about finding out what the m/823 means?
Also what was the difference between the 14 star ( my other GGf was awarded ) and the 15 star.
His name was Arthur Bland Flagg  Sargent 7562 he was in the Rifle Brigade. It would appear that he did not serve for long as the campaign only states 1914-15 .
Many Thanks

London and Middlesex / licensed Victualler
« on: Sunday 21 March 10 15:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
two of my ancestors are down on the 1851 census as being Licensed victualler Henry Flagg was at 7 New Compton road St Giles in the Field the other was Robert Flagg at 1 Duke Court St Martins in the Field another brother was a Potman with Henry.A Fourth brother was Benjamin but only have him down as licensed on his children's baptism records. They all came to London from Somerset.
They must have all liked a drink but is there any way finding out which pubs they where running?
many thanks
Ian :)
