Lancashire / Local knowledge Kersal/Salford 1950s
« on: Friday 29 May 09 14:34 BST (UK)  »
My mother (one of seven children) remembers being put into a home temporarily which was run by nuns when her mother was ill after childbirth (her father was a long distance lorry driver).  She remembers it was quite close to Littleton Road in Lower Kersal, Salford, as she lived near to there at the time.  It would have been around 1950.

Does anyone have any local knowledge of that time as to to whether it was a nunnery and what circumstances people were allowed to stay there.  If anyone knows of the road it was on, that could help.  She can recall being there for a few days as her mother was in hospital at the time.

Any details would help.

Thanks
Claudia

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / Fildes Prescot/St Helens 1901/1891
« on: Friday 27 March 09 11:00 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please help me with the following in 1901 and 1891 census returns.

The following appear in 1911

James Fildes b 1866 Glass Worker
Annie Fildes (wife) b 1865
They also had a son with them Thomas Vincent Fildes but he was only 7 in 1911 so will not be there.

In 1911 they were at 9 Boundary Rd, St Helens, however Thomas Vincent was born in Prescot so they could be there too.

I would appreciate help finding this family in 1901 and 1891 please.

Thanks
Claudia

Lancashire / 1881 census - address lookup please
« on: Friday 19 September 08 07:54 BST (UK)  »
I have a death in 1880 at 15 Friday Street, Manchester for a George Fildes and was wondering if this address held any clues to other family members for the 1881 census - ie after his death if anyone still lived there....
I know you can use the 1881 census on the LDS site, but cannot look up addresses, only names.
Would anybody be able to find this address for 1881 please and let me know who was there.
If anyone can find George prior to 1881, I also do not have that information - name George Fildes, b 1810 Manchester, occupation Umbrella Maker.
Thanks in advance,
Claudia
