Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Bond Family in Darley Dale Derbyshire
« on: Wednesday 11 August 10 00:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi to anyone who has researched this family.  I have a problem 3 times great grandfather George Bond.  I have been unable to find his birth apart from 1792 (about) his marriage to Mary Bell and a report sent to me from the Derby Mercury sent to me dated 6/1/1830, it was a coroners report of his death from burns having fallen asleep on the fire hearth.  I can't trace his burial either.  At the time of his death he lived in Greenhill Lane and was a miner which it seems may have been a family occupation as his son Andrew was also a miner which did not follow on when my grandfather moved to NZ as a teenager bringing Andrew's wife, then a widow, with him.  From looking at IGI it would appear George was very much a Bond family name.  Darley Dale having at least two generations of Georges and I have seen others in other families.  I am wondering if your research shows that my George may be part of your family tree prior to 1790s.   Any suggestions you may have would be much appreciated,  I have sites re George Bond on Rootschat which may help you.    BELLBIRD

New Zealand Completed Requests / Orphaned Children in Dunedin in 1870 *COMPLETED*
« on: Wednesday 16 December 09 06:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi is there anyone who knows how I can trace what happened to three children orphaned in 1871, both parents died about 5 months apart. mother in March and father in August.  I have traced one child appearing in an Industrial School at age 13 but nothing before the 12 years prior and nothing for the other two. Children aged 1, 3-4, and 5-6 years old.  It appears the children were with their father until his illness and subsequent death.
Any ideas or assistance would be much appreciated.  BELLBIRD

New Zealand Completed Requests / John Powell Thomas Grant Webb& Jane Joliffe Ackerman
« on: Sunday 13 September 09 05:34 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if anyone out there is descended from this couple (my great grandparents) and may have a photo of them or any family information.  They came out to New Zealand with four daughters who all married and thus the name for that branch of the family disappeared.  Jane's brother Henry his wife and family lived in Carterton area.  I have a photo of that family but unnamed so don't know the ratio of males to females or names.  Other than the graves of Henry, his wife Susan and daughter Alice there appears to be  no one of that name in that area.  I have sighted records that say his children went to school in the area near where they lived.  Papers Past site shows there was not a good relationship between Jane and Henry with him travelling to Wellington and threatening to do for Jane and burn her house down.  Neither happened, he felt that he had been encouraged to come to NZ under false info and said they owed him money.  I would love to complete the NZ Family Tree and maybe even meet some of the family.  BELLBIRD

New Zealand Completed Requests / Ackerman Family in NZ
« on: Sunday 13 September 09 05:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi fellow Kiwis.  I have been tracing my great grandparents in NZ.  I have them okay, she being of the Ackerman family (Jane Jolliffe Ackerman prior to marrying her husband who liked to be called Thomas (full name John Powell Thomas Grant Webb).  They lived in the Upper Hutt area presumably until he died and Jane moved in with one of her daughters.  I have been told he is  buried in St Johns Trentham Churchyard, it appears to be unmarked, and Janes burial taught me to not take she's not here for granted when other sources say she is.  Palmerston North Cemetery said she wasn't there, but pushing them further in response to a microfiche in Wellington they found her, she's sharing a grave with one of her daughters.  I have found some of their family (all daughters i.e. original family).
However her brother Henry came out to NZ a little later and settled in the Carterton area.  An article in Papers Past tells of an altercation Henry had with Jane while JPTG was halfway across the Hutt River, threatening "to do for her and burn her house down".  Sounds a fiesty guy yet the photos Mum had of him he doesn't give that impression.  I have one photo of him and one of his family  which appears to be a celebration of some sort as there is a large highly decorated cake in the front.  The Ackerman family after that generation seem to have vacated that area and I have been unable to trace descendants of which I hope one would have the same photo of the group and be able to name them for me.    Seems strange for the whole group to disappear.  There are Ackermans on the West Coast of the North Island but I have had no response to a letter drop I did to them.  So I am wondering if there is anyone out there who is a member of Henry's family, who is able to help me.  My Mother's family attended the same school as some of Henry's children it would appear and probably accounts for her mother being left out of Jane's will. - guess she may have been seen as "consorting with the enemy" as the saying goes.  Henry, his wife and one daughter are buried in the Carterton area.  Ackerman family in England were surprised to learn of there being Ackermans in NZ.  Jane and Henry  came from a quite large family and I have been able to trace their births and marriage and children in England and the ship they came out on.  BELLBIRD

Afternoon fellow kiwis, I am trying to find the bmd for the above two folk, my great grandparents.  I have been told he arrived in NZ in 1861 but other than his death 4/8/1871 I have been unable to find anything other than a possible bankruptcy.  I have found a reference for Anne McNeill Marriage in 1861 but no info on who her husband was.  However the dates would add up.  The birth dates for them I have been given are 1841 for William and 1844 for Anne.  I have been unable to trace them in Scotland.  Their first child a daughter Agnes was born in December 1865, then William November 1867 and lastly my grandmother Lily born February 1870.  Anne predeceased William and died March 1871 and was buried in an unmarked grave in Old Port Chalmers Cemetery (shared I believe).  Any help or contact with reles would be much appreciated.  BELLBIRD

Devon Lookup Requests / Samuel and Susan CRANCH
« on: Saturday 22 August 09 09:10 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if anyone could help me with information on Susan, she is the twin sister of my grandfather Samuel.  They were born in South Huish in 1855, their father was also named Samuel.  Samuel lived his adult years in NZ.  I am interested in knowing about South Huish.  Apparently the Church they would have been christened in is in ruins and the bapistmal font in another Church.  Any information would be much appreciated.  BELLBIRD

Hi folk in Angus,  Some time ago I tried to find the above persons records for their time in Scotland.  Our family in NZ shows William as being a lighterman at Port Chalmers ( then only Port of entry for city of Dunedin) and he dying in Dunedin city in 1871.  His wife Anne died 3 months earlier in 1871 leaving a young family, my grandmother only a baby.  I think I have William arriving in NZ in 1861 unless two Wiliiam White lighterman arrived.  which would have made him 20 years old, I can find no entry for Anne,  family records have her as being born in 1844, which would mean she would be 17 on arrival in NZ.  Our BMD records for 1800s are now available on site but I cannot trace a marriage for them so presume they were married in Scotland.  William shipped out through Glasgow.  Only detail given for William's birth was Forfarshire.  Any help or suggestions where I could look would be much appreciated.     BELLBIRD

Fife / Birth of and family of William White &Anne White (nee McNeill
« on: Tuesday 21 July 09 00:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi folk in Fife,  Some long time ago I attempted to find the above persons records for in Scotland.  Our family info in NZ shows William as being lighterman at Port Chalmers (Port for Dunedin at the time) and dying in 1871, his wife Anne died 3 months earlier than William also in 1871 leaving a young family.  I have traced William's entry into NZ in 1861 when he would have been 20 but nothing for Anne, there's an entry for a Anne McHale which could have been bad writing mistranslated, though there is no marriage for them here in NZ.    Family have her being born in 1844 but not where.     This would make her 17 if she arrived with William as is presumed.  William's record shows he shipped out from Glasgow.   He was said to be born in Forefirshire  which I haven't seen as listed on index on Scotland site, hence my request being made on Fife site.  Any help and ideas of where I could look would be most gratefully received.  I'll find the name of the ship William travelled out on in case that helps.  BELLBIRD
