Cornwall Lookup Requests / 1871 lookup please - John & Fanny MORSHEAD

Hi

Can anybody help here please?
I am tracing the line of John Morshead (1866-1934), grocer in Bassingham, Lincolnshire.
I have found him in the 1921, 1911, 1901, 1891, and 1881, but I cannot find him in 1871.

I believe that his parents were John Morshead and Fanny Rablin/Rabblin/Rabling who were married in Redruth, Cornwall, in Sep Q 1848.
John Jnr. was baptised in Redruth in the Jun Q of 1866 (vol 5c, page 310)

In 1871 he must be 5 years old, his mother will be 43 (she was baptised in Camborne, 18 Aug 1827).
I have no idea whether or not his father is still alive at this point as I know that by 1881 Fanny is widowed.
There will almost certainly be an older brother to John Jnr. living with them, Richard, who was born c1860.

If anybody could please fill in the details for 1871 and the father's death I would be very grateful.

Can someone please point me in the direction of Boothby Graffoe in the 1911 census?
I am trying to find out who was at Somerton Castle in this census, but I can't seem to pin it down.
I have Ancestry but Boothby Graffoe simply doesn't come up as an option for this particular census.

Does anyone have access to parish registers?
I have a baptism to find...
Leadley Green Pashby was born in Levisham, North Yorkshire in 1858, son of Leadley Pashby and wife Mary Ann (nee Dixon) and was baptised in the December Quarter of that year.
Many of the pages of the Parish Register are on A£ but I can't find the specific date for this.

Can anybody please oblige?

I'd appreciate some help in finding my great-grandfather in the 1939 Register, please.
You'd think it would be easy, but...

In 1921 he was with his family at 20 Edgehill Road, Scarborough; by 1951 the family is at 8 Fairmead Close, Victoria Avenue East, Blackley, Manchester.

Now, I'm guessing that they would still be in the Scarborough area in 1939 - but I can't find them.
A search on A£ doesn't throw up his name or any of the family.
So they might be in the Manchester area by then - but still nothing on the search.
He was too old to be fighting.

My guess is that they have been mis-transcribed.

The details you will probably need are as follows:

John Dodsworth Pashby: born 6 May 1883, Scarborough. Ironmonger by trade.
Agnes Ellen Pashby (nee Wright): born 26 July 1886, Scarborough.
Geoffrey Allan Pashby: born 22 January, 1926, Scarborough.

I can't make head nor tail of it other than he suffered for 9 years.

I wonder if anyone might be able to help me, please?

My one and only aunt died late last year in Australia.
Norma Pashby
Born 20th August 1935, Barnsley, Yorkshire, I believe that she lived in Sydney.
She was the widow of Dad's only sibling, Christopher Allan Pashby.

Unfortunately, one of my cousins rang Dad to break the news a couple of days before Christmas using a mobile with a "Number Withheld" and so we can't ring back for details.
We only have the house landline and nobody answers that so we have lost all contact with my two cousins unless they ring us on the off-chance, which is more than unlikely to ever happen.

Has Norma's death been announced in the Australian press?
Is there an obituary?
Can anyone please do any screen-grabs that will allow me to put her story to bed?

FH Documents and Artefacts / Any lawyers out there, please?

Hi all

First off, I will apologise if I have posted this in the wrong 'area' as I wasn't quite sure where to put it.
It's not that I can't read (most) of it... it's more that I simply don't understand much of it.
Far too much 'legalese' or 'lawyer-speak' for my liking!

To me, it looks like Matthew Winn and William Foottit have entered into a mortgage agreement with Thomas and Richard Garton (Lincoln tobacconists) to borrow £2,600.
I think that Winn is bound to pay back £1,300 plus interest at the rate of 5% per annum on 21st February.

As far as I can see...

Have Winn and Foottit borrowed £2600 between them?
Or are they lending?
And how does William Ellis of Cherry Willingham fit into the deal? ???

In spite of the document being stamped "1840" it's definitely 1844 because "the eighth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria" began on 20th June, 1844.

All and any help gratefully received! :)

The Common Room / Thomas Sedman 1874 fraud newspaper report?

I can't find a section of this site dedicated to newspapers so I'll pop this here if that's ok.
(Admins please feel free to move this if necessary)

I have found on Ancestry a link to a court record image for a Thomas Sedman of Scarborough found guilty of fraud and sentenced to three months, hard labour on 20th April 1874.

I can't be sure if this is my man; Sedman was hardly an uncommon name around those parts back then.
But I am pretty sure that, given his character (a seemingly quite slippery bar steward!) that it may well be him.

Does anyone know if it was reported in any of the contemporary Scarborough or York press, something which might help to confirm the felony?

My Thomas Sedman was located in Fish Yard, Scarborough at this point.
