Donegal / Fanet -where is it?
« on: Tuesday 15 February 11 23:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Please can someone tell me where Fanet  is? My  great great uncle was born there and it is most likely to be in Donegal?
I have his date of birth and parents names but I cannot find Fanet on the map, or in Irish Place Names.

Thanks

US Lookup Requests / Doherty Family Donegal to PA- Brick wall?
« on: Wednesday 26 January 11 22:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Any assistance to trace this my emigrant  family would be greatly appreciated. My information is very sketchy but names and  birth dates are accurate.

Annie Doherty born  1st May1876 in Cashel/ Mevagh Co Donegal emigrated to the US.
Her sister Shelah born 31st May 1879 in Cashel/ Mevagh also emigrated. Sister's Mary and Julia  also went along with brother's William and James.  I do not know if they went one by one or as a family or if they were going out to someone they knew.

Possibly they sailed from Londonderry or Belfast  guessing around 1896 making Annie around 20 years of age.  There parents were Hugh Doherty and Shelah Gillespie.

One of the Doherty girl's married, and her  grandson  or great grandson searched in Letterkenny and Creaslough a few years ago for relatives his surname could be Carr/ Kerr/or  Jones and he was from Pittsburgh PA .  It is believed that the 3 of the girls were in Pittburgh.

Has anyone a suggestion for solving the needle in a haystack or is it  the brick wall!!  Hoping to be lucky.
Thanks for taking time to read this.
Regards

Donegal / Glenineeny
« on: Thursday 05 August 10 22:28 BST (UK)  »

How can I trace a marriage certificate from Glenineeny?
My great granddad gives Glenineeny as the place where he was  married?
I have found Glenineeny on the map as being near Glen/ Creeslough Co Donegal.

The marriage would be around 1870-1890 and the names would Jane  Gillespie  marrying Hugh Docherty/ Doherty.
The Gillespie family were I believe from Cashel which is nearby.
I would assume it would be a Roman Catholic Church near to Glenineeny. Any assistance greatly appreciated as I am ''stuck in the tree ''with this side of the family.

Donegal / Doherty 1901 Cashel Kilmacrennan
« on: Thursday 27 May 10 13:47 BST (UK)  »
The 1901 Census shows Hugh Doherty at No 15 Cashel Kilmacrenan with his wife Cecilia and three daughters named Rose, Sarah, and Mary.

My GGD  was Hugh Doherty and his wife was Jane Gillespie and I know they had at least three children, Hugh, Rose, and Sarah.

Son Hugh moved to live in Scotland and married Mary Anne Deeney.

Rose (Rosie)  Doherty married Patrick (Ty) Boyle and lived in Cashel in a thatched cottage that backed onto the lough at Doe Castle, they had a large family.

Sarah married John  (Joe) Langan from Creeslough and had a family.

Where would I be able to trace a marriage certificate for Jane and Hugh? Is it possible Hugh was twice married?

I know there is still family living the area and would appreciate any assistance in trying to locate them.  Thank you
