East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / East Fortune RNAS later RAF base WW1
« on: Friday 11 November 11 10:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Searchers,

your help would be appreciated.
My research is currently
into the history of  WW1 aerodrome  at East Fortune
a base for RNAS later RAF.

Frederick T.J KIRKBY, air mechanic,  had
been posted to Scotland from RN, Tregantle, Cornwall
May 1918 - May 1919

He may have spent some time in hospital at
that location.  Significant clues where the medical
records are archived would be welcome.

many thanks

your help would be appreciated.
The attached photo group appears to be
a grand Concert Party ca.1920+
It may be a Jubilee celebration or
church theatre drama group.
The family were settled in or around  the
Elephant and Castle or St Olave, Bermondsey.

Any thoughts would be most welcome

World War Two / Coastal Command OTU Pembrokeshire
« on: Friday 18 June 10 09:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello searchers

I am delighted to find this link and read through aspects
of RAF Coastal Command activities during WW2.

I have an eyewitness account by a youngster who had
seen a crash from a nearby farm close to RAF Haverfordwest
His memory of the event is vivid and it would be helpful to add
facts to the history.

Pembroke Memorial has:-
Alwyn Thomas John PHILLIPS,
Pilot Officer (Air Bomber), 137542,
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
Alwyn was the Son Of
John Howell Phillips And Martha Elizabeth Phillips,
Of Tiers Cross, and the Husband Of Stella Adrienne Phillips,
Of Hatch End, Pinner, Middlesex.

He was training as an Air Bomber with the Royal Air Force
when he was killed during an aeroplane crash
on 1 March 1943. Alwyn was 33 years old, and is buried at Tiers Cross Congregational Cemetery, Pembrokeshire.

His father, PHILLIPS senior was a Congregational Minister at
Tiers Cross.
R.A.F. Haverfordwest was based at Withybush, opening 1943
when No. 3 Operational Training Unit was based there.

Any fresh thoughts on where to search next would be welcome

Hello friends,

I am delighted to find this  lively forum as
my current research interest  concerns the pre 1900
occupants at The Old Corn Mill, Spittal, near Solva.
Can anyone help with this?

Also hope to find where the Spittal village school records
are archived. The family of  the farmer is believed to
be BATEMAN.

Many thanks, I hope to hear from you

The Common Room / MyTinyLamp - Toc-H?
« on: Thursday 02 October 08 11:10 BST (UK)  »
Hello searchers,

I have a Birthday Book, a keepsake that had belonged
to my grandmother and where she had kept notes of
her family.

The cover has a title "My Tiny Lamp"  and illustrated
with a diagram of a small lamp with a glowing flame.

Can anyone help - with this long shot? Could the book
have been published by theToc-H?

The dates through the year are matched with biblical texts,
i.e. "come unto me all ye that labour..."

Any useful comments on this would be much appreciated.

Kent / No 5 Marine Parade Folkestone
« on: Friday 26 September 08 12:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello searchers

I am currently working on a family history who were residents of
Folkestone in 1926-27 and appear on the electoral register at
No 5 Marine Parade, Folkestone.
They were thought to have owned a small guest house.

The current photographs/website show
No 4-5 Marine Parade is the Gran Canaria Hotel
which looks a fine place with a great sea view.

Can anyone help with useful  background info on this location
it would be much appreciated.
