Armed Forces / How to search for records with minimum information
« on: Monday 07 June 21 21:32 BST (UK)  »
I have been told that my paternal grandfather, Arthur Sidney Platt, served in the Army presumably during the second world war. When he was alive he never mentioned it and I only found out after his death that he had served with REME.
Given that this is all I know is there any way I can trace his service history?
Any help gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance,
Chris

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Seeking Hanson JAGGER
« on: Thursday 13 May 21 17:17 BST (UK)  »
Hanson Jagger was born 2/8/1853, son of Joseph and Ann Jagger of Fixby, Yorkshire. He was baptised at Rastrick St. Matthew on 21/8/1853. He married Mary Anderson on 1/11/1875 at Lightcliffe, Yorks and I have found a burial at Lightcliffe on 17/2/1917, though I haven't yet confirmed this is him.
I have found him on 1871 census with his parents at Birkhouse, Hartshead cum Clifton (RG10/4387, folio 18, page 29) and from 1881 to 1911 with his wife and family at various addresses in the Halifax area. However, I have been unable to find him (or his parents) on the 1861 census despite several searches on Find My Past.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I may find him.
Any help forthcoming will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards and stay safe,
Exiled Mancunian.

I use Legacy 9.0 and I was wondering if there is a way to incorporate census and 1939 Register entries into individual records?

Any help gratefully received.

Firstly, I apologise if this is the wrong place for this post.
I use Legacy 9.0 Family Tree and I was wondering if there is a way of adding census entries and 1939 Register entries to individual ancestor records? Currently I have them on census record sheets for each family.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Kind regards and stay safe,

The Common Room / Austen Leopold Hughman
« on: Sunday 17 November 19 18:01 GMT (UK)  »
This is a long shot, but does anyone have the above person in their family tree. All I know for certain about him is that he attended University of London in the late 1940's and he was living at 1 Belsize Grove, London N.W. 3.
If anyone knows of him I have something that may be of interest to them.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / S. Gradwell, Family Butcher
« on: Saturday 17 August 19 20:51 BST (UK)  »
I have just been looking at a postcard that shows the shop front for S. Gradwell, Family Butcher. It shows five men standing outside with all the meat hung up outside. Location is unknown but 'believed to be Lancashire.
The card is dated 1911 and has four names on the back: Mr. Gradwell, Harry Hankinson, Albert Cooper and Jack Wood.
Given this sketchy information, can anyone say where this shop is located?
Many thanks in advance.

Derbyshire / 1911 Census Query - Robert Jagger
« on: Sunday 31 March 19 21:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a problem which I am hoping someone may be able to help with. Robert Jagger (born 1856 in Brighouse, Yorks) moved to Hayfield with his family between 1901 and 1911.Family stories say it was to run a quarry. My problem is that on the 1911 census only his wife (Hannah G) and four of their children appear on the census. He was still alive as Hannah is shown as wife and married on the return (he died in Lancashire in 1925).

Is it possible to search the census to try and find where he was on census night? Attempts so far have drawn a blank and any suggestions would be welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Chris

Cheshire Lookup Requests / James Roscoe from Tattenhall
« on: Thursday 25 October 18 21:01 BST (UK)  »
My wife's ancestor, James Roscoe died in February 1892 as a result of an accident where he fell into a vat or tub containing 6-8 inches of boiling water and was scalded to death.

There are reports of the inquest in both the Chester Chronicle and the Cheshire Observer, both dated 20th February 1892. The Chronicle refers to the accident having taken place in 'Messers Cooke's factory', while the Observer says it was in 'the dairy belonging to Mr J Cooke, of The Hall'.

Does anyone know old Tattenhall well enough to say which of the two is correct?

Thanks in advance.
