My 3rd great grandfather David Herbert Philip’s death has proved elusive for over 20 years. He was born illegitimate so sometimes is David Herbert (census returns, childrens births) or David Herbert Philip (marriage certificate.) He was born 30 Jan 1839 and married Catherine Thomas 1860 in Wick, Glamorgan. He worked as an agricultural labourer and they had 2 children- Sarah (1860) and Martha (1863) and according to the 1863 baptism records were living in the union workhouse, Bridgend. On the 1871 census Catherine is a widow living in Cefn Glas, Newcastle, Bridgend and shortly after remarries. I therefore assume David died between 1863-1871 but have never found his death. I have searched for David Herbert/ Herbert Philip/ Philips and any other variation I could think of. I recently read it wasn’t compulsory to register deaths until 1874 but I find it hard to believe his death wasn’t registered somewhere. I know it is a long shot but does anyone have access to the Tabernacle burials for Bridgend to see if he is listed?
Unfortunately I am not local so If anyone is able to help I would be extremely grateful

I have my ancesor, Thomas Downing’s service record which tells me he signed up 2 Aug 1804 and served until 31 March 1817. He is listed as serving in the 2nd battalion Royal Artillery under General Ellis Walker and serving in Major C H Godby’s company as a gunner.

I am struggling to find out where the would be based / have served etc. Does anyone have any ideas? If anyone could offer any help I would appreciate it.

Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Blaenywaun Burial Ground, St Dogmaels
« on: Saturday 10 July 21 09:10 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the burial records or monumental inscriptions for Blaenywaun, St Dogmaels?

I have managed to confirm (from a newspaper) that my ancestor John Owens was buried a Blaenywaun on the 3 Dec 1934. So I am now trying to trace if his wife Ann is also there. Ann Owens died 12 Dec 1900.

If anyone is able to help with any information I would be extremely grateful.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA Confusion
« on: Saturday 16 January 21 11:08 GMT (UK)  »
I am a little confused having got back my dad’s ancestry DNA. I thought you got DNA from both parents even though the amount may not be exactly 50/50. However my grandfather was english and my grandmother was welsh but they predict my dad is 98% Welsh! And 2% Irish.

Is this normal to have no english or does it throw his parentage into dispute?

Somebody once told me my ancestor Harry/Henry Davies was on the 1918 voters list living at 9 Margam Street, Caerau, nr Maesteg, Llangynwydd. However I've since found out the Absent Voters List often gave out their military info next to the name ie regiment number, corps etc.

Does anyone have access to this list and able to confirm if his military details were included by his name?

Does anyone have access to the graveyard plans for the Kings Cross Wesleyan Chapel in Halifax?

My ancestors Walter (died 1927) and Emma Walsh (died 1924) are in plot i26 but I have heard the graveyard is very extensive so any help to narrow down my search would be gratefully received. Are there any records to tell me if there is a headstone as I do not live locally.

I should mention the grave was first used in february 1881 when their 2 year old son, also named Walter Walsh was buried.

Heres hoping

« on: Wednesday 22 June 11 15:10 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to get the details from the marriage of Henry Lambert to Mary Lyth. I believe they married at St Vedast, Foster Lane, London in 1798.

If anyone has access to these records could they please look up the date they married and any addtional information including witnesses and the parish the bride and groom were from.

With Thanks
Sara
