Derbyshire / Barlborough - Manor cottages
« on: Wednesday 05 December 12 20:23 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know where Manor Cottages were in Barlborough - or do they even still exist?  Even better would anyone have any photos?

Derbyshire / Mosborough- Old Lane
« on: Tuesday 09 October 12 22:27 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone know anything about 'Old Lane' in Mosborough.

I am researching people who lived at this address in the 1840-1860 period.  According to Google maps it is now part of the Holbrook Trading estate - indeed on some of the censuses of these people (White) the place of birth was recorded as Holbrook.

Do any photos of 'Old Lane' in days gone when it might have still resembled its mid 1800s state exist anywhere?  Or does anyone have any information at all?

Would anyone know where parish registers for Killamarsh/Eckington/Barlborough etc are archived, and can they be seen?

Derbyshire / Clowne Colliery Accident
« on: Saturday 22 September 12 21:15 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if anyone has any information about a fatal accident at Southgate Colliery, Clowne that happened on 11th October 1919.

My great grandmother's brother was killed in it, and I would like to find out more.  There were multiple fatalities, so this must have been reported in the local paper.  Would anyone know which paper that might be, and where they are now archived?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Broomfields, Bradford
« on: Monday 12 October 09 00:03 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone happen to have any old pictures of the Broomfields area of Bradford prior to the clearances of the 1930's?  In particular Bolling Street, but anywhere in the vicinity will do.

If anyone has any info at all on the area it would be a help.

Thanks

Mike

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Bradford Workhouse Infirmary
« on: Tuesday 27 January 09 19:27 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know anything about this place?  Death cert I have received (1917) puts this as place of death but not place of residence od deceased.

Was this used as a general hospital for the citizens of Bradford rather than just the workhouse inmates?

Interestingly it is described on cert as 'Tempoarary Workhouse Infirmary'.  Anyone any info on this?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Completely Stuck
« on: Sunday 25 January 09 23:38 GMT (UK)  »
I suppose this happens to us all at some point; the brick wall.  Any advice on the following would be appreciated!

IN researching my Great-great grandfather Charles T Potter, the censuses each give contradictory information - as follows

1911 Age 52 married to Mary Ann Potter (who was formerly Walsh). Born in York (been married for 30 years)  Also with them is his grown up and married daughter Mary Ann Smith (aged 23).

1901 Age 42 living with Mary Ann Walsh (widow) who is his boarder.  Born in Bradford.  Also with them is Mary Lavinia Walsh aged 13 daughter of Mary Ann.

1891  Age 34  married to Mary Ann Potter.  Born in Hull.  Mary Lavinia Potter aged 3 daughter of Mary and Charles.

Mary Lavinia's birth certificate (1887) states her name as Mary Lavina Potter, mother Mary Ann Walsh, father not listed.  A request form for a copy of the birth cert dating from 1900 states Charles T Potter as father.

All three decades give same address (Bolling Street Bradford) and occupation.  Try as I might, I cannot find either his birth circa 1859 (anywhere at all) or the 'marriage' to Mary Ann Walsh, if ever there was one.  I also cannot find Charles T Potter on any census earlier than 1891.

There is a Charles Potter married to a Mary Ann on the 1881 census, but I am sure this is a different one, as Mary Ann Walsh appears on that census too!

It is a complete riddle.  Anyone have any ideas?

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Bowling cemy, Bradford Burial
« on: Sunday 25 January 09 19:40 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out when my Great grandfather was buried at Bowling Cemetery.  I was told he died around 1915 but cannot find a death entry for him.  I am also reliably informed that he was buried at this cemetery in Bradford.

So, if I can find his burial, I can then trace his death cert and date of death!  His name is Charles Thomas Potter.

Don't know cemetery if this is on NBI, or if anyone has any other records and can help.  Many thanks

Mike

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Bowling burial
« on: Thursday 22 January 09 21:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have an ancestor who I know is buried in Bowling Cemetery, as an old family member has reliably informed me.  However, we do not know when he was buried.  Is there a list of names available?  If I can find out when he was buried, then I can quite probably find his death entry.   I've been told he died around 1915 but cannot find a death entry for this period for him.  Finding his burial would help immensly.

Thanks

Mike
