Really puzzled with this one ??? Have posted in past hoping someone would be able to throw some light on where he disappeared to?  After 1851 census we lose him as Innkeeper from Waterloo Inn, 23 Prissick Street, Hartlepool and his wife (Anne Kirkley) remarries in 1857 as his widow on certificate of new marriage in Hartlepool and moves to Scotland with her new husband John Macmillan and Thomas Smith's young son (also Thomas Smith, my 3x great grandfather) He keeps his father's name all his life.  No record I can find of death date or burial info or MI?

Australia / Looking for Family of Dr. John Davis and Nina (nee Brown)
« on: Thursday 12 December 13 12:06 GMT (UK)  »
Emigrated around 1963 to Australia. Nina was one of four children.
By 1964 they are living in Mont Park Hospital, Mont Park Melbourne, Australia.
This was prior to Dr. John Davis going into private practice after qualifying as a psychiatrist.
In 1973 we learned (us being The Craig Family from Fife Scotland) they owned a collie dog called Kinta which they put to shows?
Last known address was in June 1983 to us, Nina writes then  in a letter telling of her three children.
Anyone able to help us out? :(

Arthur William Preston born 1885 in England but married 1917 in Possilpark Glasgow to Agnes Hendry Kerr Smith born 1895 Stirling Scotland. In march 1920 their son Donald Arthur Preston is born in Lewisham in England. Some time after this it would seem they go to Australia as they appear on an Incoming Passenger list ,departing Brisbane Australia and arriving in London 1st September 1932. Donald is 12 years old by then. No sign of Agnes going or coming back. Do not know name of ship or any other details as I am not able to view the records on my subscription.
Can any one do a look up for me please for this family and throw some light on their years abroad? Family story has Agnes maybe drowned sometime after 1920. If it was in UK I can't find a death record for her. Thanks ???

Agnes Henry Ker Smith born 1895 in Larbert Stirlingshire Scotland, marries, Arthur William Preston at 193 Saracen Street Glasgow on April 28th 1917 by Warrant of Sheriff Substitute of Lanarkshire.  (Registrar John Smith and two witnesses Alexander Urquart Pollock (plumber) and William Loudon (Drapery Warehouseman).
Agnes was at the time a spinster and aged 21years.and her home address 2 Boyd Street Grahamstown Falkirk.  (Father Thomas Smith who because of the war years was a Private in Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1917 and Sarah Smith (Ballantyne) her mother.)

Arthur was born in England in 1891 a bachelor and Army Pensioner in 1917. (Father William Preston (Grain Merchant's Manager. deceased) and mother Jessie Preston now Fuller (m.s. Beer). His home address in 1917 was 340 Saracen Street Glasgow.  Both were Shell Factory workers.  In 1917 and 1918 there were two male children born with surname Preston in PossilPark. Thomas and Joseph but do not know if they are children born to Agnes and Arthur?
After 1917 they just seem to disappear. Can not find divorce other marriages or death records for iether of them?  Found her sister Sarah Ballantine Angus  and family having emigrated in 1923  on the American boards but nothing for Agnes. ::)  Family talk has it that she drowned but ???

US Lookup Requests / Preston Family in New York
« on: Sunday 24 March 13 23:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi again.  I was very lucky to find Sarah Ballantine Angus (m.s. Smith) and her family, who had emigrated to America in 1925 from Scotland on this board last week thanks to a look up request kindly carried out for me 'with lightning speed' may I add. Still can't get over my luck  ;D
However a trickier one looms ??? The sister of Sarah B Angus was supposed to have drowned? Agnes Hendry, Kerr, Preston ( m.s. Smith) born Larbert, Stirlingshire, Scotland in 1895 to Thomas Smith and Sarah Ballantine Smith. Running a check on Scotland's People I came across her wedding record in Possilpark Glasgow, Scotland,1917 to Arthur,William Preston, born 1891 in England I believe. His mother by then remarried and called Jessie Fuller (m.s. Boer.). His father William Preston deceased.
In 1917 there is one birth for the name Preston in Possilpark. A male Thomas and the following year 1918 another male Joseph. I would have to order the birth record to confirm Agnes and Arthur as
their parents but feel that they are likely to be.   No more births after 1918 to them and no deaths for any of them or marriages in Scotland or England.
Ran an Emigration check on Ancestry and their names came up on the lists for New York passenger lists for  1920 - 1957 quite far up the list but details locked out as before!
Is it possible they have  also emigrated and maybe Agnes drowned at sea or abroad? Could someone maybe do a look up on this family or the U.S. Federal census for me please?  Seem to have just disappeared since 1918. Thanks again
Carol

US Lookup Requests / Angus family in New York
« on: Wednesday 20 March 13 22:07 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone do a look up in United States federal census for a Scottish family who I believe emigrated to New York  around 1923?  Sarah Ballantine Angus (m.s.Smith) and David Angus. They were both born in 1897 in Scotland  and married in 1922 in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, Scotland. I have a vital record for a son born to them in Tillicoultry in 1923, Scotland. After this no BMD in Scotland or UK. For any of them. 1925 1930 and 1940, US Federal census show a match for their criteria in Bronx New York and latterly Queens, New York, unfortunately I only have basic viewing subscription and am not sure if they are family in question?  Sarah B Angus, and David Angus and David Angus jnr also appear on passenger lists for New York but cannot view them either. Wonder if anyone can help me pin point them please? Or can tell me the ship they may have sailed in and any relevant information on their lives once they arrived there. David Angus was a bricklayer to trade. Thanks C

Durham Lookup Requests / Death of Thomas Smith after 1851 census
« on: Sunday 17 February 13 21:53 GMT (UK)  »
Totally stuck now! He was born 1823 in Bishop Auckland, and brought up in Witton le Wear. His father Thomas Smith and siblings (engine men) were still in residence there. Thomas 1823 married Anne Kirkley, daughter of George Kirkley (blacksmith) and Hannah Robson also Witton le Wear residents, 1847  Bishop Auckland. have marriage cert. 1851 census has Thomas and Anne at Waterloo Inn, 23 Prissick Street Hartlepool where he is about 29 years old and is innkeeper there. They have a young son, also Thomas aged five and a scholar.  In 1856 Anne remarries as a widow in Hartlepool, a John Macmillan (coastguard and excise, ex naval) and they move to Scotland taking young Thomas with them but he was brought up as Thomas Smith not McMillan.  What happened to his father?  Can find no death cert for him or place of death, suffice it to say after 1851 census and before his wife remarried in 1856  ???

Stirlingshire / Agnes Hendry Kerr Smith 1895 Larbert mystery.
« on: Tuesday 06 September 11 03:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Can anyone help?  Agnes Hendry Kerr Smith was my Great Aunt.  Have been told she may have been drowned at sea but can find no death record for her on Scotlands people or ancestry? Last record of her was on the 1911 census for Larbert and she was aged 15 and working at Carron Iron Works (brick making). She was born in Larbert on December 12th at 108 West Carron. Her father Thomas Smith worked there also and her mother's name was Sarah Ballantine. She had brothers and sisters who I have various BMD's for over the years but cannot find a marriage or death record for Agnes.  They moved to Fife as a family in 1920's but nothing on Agnes. What newspaper could I check for an article if she did drown, and would she be likely to have a MI in local graveyard ? If so which one would it likely be in?  There is no mention of her on her parents headstone in Fife. Thanks creamolafoam ???
