Cornwall / MARTIN family SITHNEY, HELSTON.
« on: Saturday 01 January 11 13:06 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find the area where James Martin a carpenter, and his family lived. James and his wife Eliza were married in Sithney church in 1837. Their first 4 children were baptised in Helston between 1838 and 1846 and the address was given as either St Johns or Anstratea. I have visited Sithney several times, but have drawn a blank as to the exact area they would have lived in. Does anyone know if either of these places still exists, or where they were? Thanks, Louise.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / William Moody St Luke 1851/61 Please.
« on: Saturday 20 November 10 17:42 GMT (UK)  »
I’m trying to find William Moody in the1851 and 1861 census.

In 1871 he is listed as William Moodey b 1841 St Luke, Middlesex, Fish Dealer. He is living with his wife and children in Memel Street, St Luke.

William married Mary Ann Hodges a widow in 1864, at the time he was a Shopman and was living at 5 Kings Court.  His father is listed as William Moody a Painter.
In 1881 Mary Ann is a widow living with their children at 34, Mitchell Street, St Luke.

There is a William Moody with a son William b 1840, both are house decorators living in Tower Hamlets, but this William goes on to marry a Caroline Hodgson in 1879, so cannot be him.

Can anyone help please?

 Louise.

I'm trying to find the birth of Benjamin Piers Gilbert in St Michael's, London in 1787.  Can anyone help me with where St Michael's is or would have been, and how to start looking for a baptism there. I'm finding London rather daunting. Thanks Louise.

Sussex / Baptism for Watson Mountfield/Eppinghole
« on: Friday 02 July 10 18:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Is there anyone who could look up the baptism of Jane Watson for me please.  In the 1861 and 71 census her birth place is recorded as Mountfield, Sussex, although in 1851 it says Eppinghole Sussex. Is there such a place?
Jane was born in 1829. I would be grateful for any help finding her birth/baptism.
Thanks Louise.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / William Statham 1851 census
« on: Monday 25 January 10 17:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am tying to find William Statham born about 1781 and his wife Elizabeth born about 1784 in the 1851 census.

In 1841 they are living in Grays Inn Lane, St Pancras. William is a Tailor and both are listed as being born in Middlesex.

In 1861 William is a widower and is living in Newington St Mary with his daughter Sarah. Williams place of birth is listed as Clerkenwell Middlesex.

I have found a likely death date for Elizabeth as 1859 in Newington.

I'm sure they are there somewhere, but I just keep covering the same ground.
Does anyone have any ideas?

      Louise.

Armed Forces / Swimming the Nile, late 1800's
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 18:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,  I'm hoping someone can help me to prove an old family story.
My Great Grandfather William Thomas Moody, born 1867, is said to have swam across the Nile while serving with the army, in the late 1800's.
In his WW1 records I cannot read what has been written as his previous unit.
Can anyone decipher it,  and if so would he have travelled overseas with this unit?

Louise.
