Flintshire Lookup Requests / David Davis Pickhill or Shordley
« on: Wednesday 28 November 12 05:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Just wanted to find out if anyone can help me with place names in Wales. I am trying to marry up records I have found for David Davis. I have his Australian convict records that shows he was from Flint. The record from the Bodmin Jail records, (where he was held prior to transportation) shows he is from Shordley (at least I think that is what is says) and now I have found a baptism record showing that he is the son of Mary Davis of Pickhill. There is no father listed and a notation that looks like BAS. Can anyone tell me if this means he was born out of wedlock and where Shorley and Pickhill where.

Thanks

Hi, hoping someone is able to help me with the RIC service number of Thomas Colahan Born 1836 enlisted 1856, Thomas is from Galway. Or am I able to access this info at the National Archives?

I am only in London for one more day (visiting from Australia) and I am planning on going to the National Archives tomorrow to look up his service records.

If you can help, thanks

Laois (Queens) / Thomas Colahan and Mary Delaney
« on: Wednesday 19 January 11 04:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Looking for information on Thomas Colahan and Mary Delaney's parents/siblings.

On Mary's death certificate is states that she was born in Mount Raff (Mountrath) around 1839 and married in the same place. It shows her parents as Daniel Delaney and Ellen O'Carrol. She was a catholic.
On Thomas's death certificate it states that they married in Rosseray (maybe Roscrae) and that he was born in Galway around 1841.  Thomas was in the RIC and married Mary prior to coming to Australia in 1865.

Thanks

Armagh / Kearns/Cairns Family of Armagh
« on: Tuesday 29 December 09 10:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for any information on the sisters Clara & Mary Louisa Kearns/Cairns.

Clara was born abt 1841 and according to her Australian Death Certificate was born in Armagh. Her sister Mary Louisa was born abt 1848.  Father is listed as Marmaduke Montague Kearns and mother is Mary Nugent. Death certificates state the Marmaduke was in the military. Mary and Clara where catholics.

Clara came to Australia on the "Beejapore" in 1863 but I cannot find any record of Mary's immigration to Australia.

Just to make it more interesting, Clara's Australian marriage certificate shows her parents as Patrick Kearns and mother Cath Syne.

All three certificates have Kearns spelt either Kearns or Cairns.

Australia / Convict Record - ????
« on: Sunday 18 October 09 08:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Was wondering if someone could tell me what this record means. Is it saying that the ages of the convicts are only 1,2 and 4 etc? Are these children of convicts. The one I am interested in is William Burchell, 9th from the bottom. Is he "1" when the Asia arrived in 1820, and can someone read what the employment is?

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / RIC Service Records
« on: Saturday 22 August 09 01:13 BST (UK)  »
Back in May I paid for research at the Archives office in Kew for my GGG Grandfathers RIC Service records. I have contacted them several times and they advised that they were sent in June. They were obviously lost in the post. Now they wont even respond to my correspondence. My only option now is to pay again.

Before I do that I was wondering if anyone has access to these records of if they were themselves going to do research at Kew themselves and if they could perhaps look this up for me. I have his service number. I would be prepared to pay for any  out of pocket expenses. As I live in Australia I cannot get there myself.

Thanks

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / George Bendall
« on: Friday 19 June 09 13:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Wondering if someone would be able to assist me in finding any info on my GG Grandfather, George Frederick Bendell/Bendall.

His marriage certificate in Australia states his birthplace as Bath about 1837 (father Frederick, mother Mary) but I have been unable to find anything relating to him in Somerset.

I have come across an 1861 Census that puts a Geo Bendall on board the Indus and states his birth place as Bristol.  I know that he was a seaman so this could possibly be him.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Debra

Hi

Thomas Silver is listed as a deserter from HMS Electra in Sept 1854.  Does anyone know where I would start to look for his navel records?
