Staffordshire / Harry Hill
« on: Saturday 14 May 11 17:15 BST (UK)  »
I have been searching for Harry Hill b1882  Watling Street, Newtown, Hammerwich. I have only found him on the 1891 census with his family. Unfortunately the family was missed off the 1901 census.  I cannot find a birth entry for him.I have tried Henry and Harry.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Would someone born in Elmhurst be probably  christened in Lichfield?
If so does anyone know how many churches there were in Lichfield the early 1800's ?

Warwickshire / 1878 Will
« on: Wednesday 26 January 11 11:26 GMT (UK)  »
I have just received a copy of my Gr.Gr.Grandfather's will made in 1877

I was surprised that an Agricultoral Labourer of that time had enough money requiring  to make a will.

In it he owned his own cottage and two gardens. It was estimated that they should fetch at least £170 when sold.

It would be interesting to find out how he acheived this.  I do not think it was from his father who has ten children and was also a labourer.

I have found a member of my family in Winson Green Prison on the 1911 census.

Are the records available or is there a hundred year ban?

Thank you.

Staffordshire / Newtown, Hammerwich

In the later half of 19th century my family lived on Watling Street, Newtown, Hammerwich.
Does anyone know whether they would have been baptised in the village of Hammerwich which is not
close or the nearer parish of Ogley Hay?
