Channel Islands Lookup Requests / St Peter Port Marriage help
« on: Thursday 23 September 21 07:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to find info on a couple in St Peter Port.  William Morton Lane Morton married Gertrude Eliza Gould sometime between 1915 and 1925.  He was born in England, and her father was from Jersey.  I have found a possible father for her, Clarence, but really need to see a marriage entry to confirm this.  If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated. Thank you

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Married in two Halifax churches?
« on: Sunday 12 September 21 13:22 BST (UK)  »
My great great grandparents Eliza Ann Hudson and Joseph William Daniels were married in All Soul's Church in 1878.  I have recently found another entry for them in the same year at St Edward The Confessor, Brotherton.  The All Souls entry just says November, with no day.

Was the Brotherton church a different religion? I have never found a baptism for Eliza Ann who was born in Halifax, nor her father Phineas who was born in Northowram according to the census.  I recently met up with a cousin who told me our aunt once said that Eliza Ann was Jewish but non practising, no one in the family had heard of that before!

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Salterhebble All Saints Churchyard
« on: Thursday 02 September 21 17:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi, i'm going to visit the grave of my DANIELS great great grandparents next week. I have the grave reference of 2/61/S but can't find any sort of plan online.  Do any local people have an idea where this could be, or how big the area is?

Many thanks

Lancashire / Haslingden workhouse but not poor
« on: Sunday 27 December 20 13:44 GMT (UK)  »
Is there a reason why you would go into the workhouse if you weren’t destitute?

My great great grandmother Eliza Ann Daniels was from Halifax then went to Accrington with her grown up children  (shes on the 1911 census with her son and his family) Her probate entry in 1921 shows address as Haslingden union workhouse, and died at Moorlands House Haslingden. Probate of £500 went to her sister so she wasn’t exactly poor.  Burial is confusing as she has turned up in a churchyard in Salterhebble, Yorkshire and address is Moorland house Halifax. She has no known connections to Salterhebble, her husband is buried in the main area of Halifax.

Was there a Moorland/s House in Haslingden, and are Haslingden workhouse records available to view?

I’m wondering if she fell out with her family. Why go to the workhouse if your children had good jobs and you had some money yourself then left it all to your sister

Thanks!

Essex Lookup Requests / A marriage in Ongar
« on: Wednesday 15 January 14 10:53 GMT (UK)  »
I found banns for Henrietta Pauline Hampton and Stephen Clark in Highgate, London in 1896, but freebmd has the marriage in Ongar.  Is this usual?  Henrietta was living in London and Stephen was born in Ongar.  Any help would be most appreciated as this lady was born in France but her parents were British and she's nowhere to be found in England before this date!

Thank you :)  Justine

Europe / Finding British subjects in France
« on: Wednesday 15 January 14 10:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

On the 1911 census my ancestor was listed as being born in France but British subject by parentage.  I have no idea how to find this lady!  Her name was Henrietta Pauline Hampton and she was born about 1878. She is not on any previous census returns that I can see.  How accessible are records online like the UK ones we have?

Thanks :)

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / NORTHOWRAM BAPTISM HELP PLEASE
« on: Thursday 02 June 11 11:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Im trying to find my great x 3 grandfather Phineas Hudson's baptism record.  The census and his death puts his birth about 1819.  His wife was also born Northowram and I found her in the non conformist records but no sign of Phineas.

Would anyone know what church he was likely to have been baptised in?

Thanks, Justine

Cheshire / northwich newspapers
« on: Sunday 22 May 11 15:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have just found what I think is my ancestor (John Brown!) In the Witton Aux burials he died in 1827 as a result of an accident.  Im wondering if there was a newspaper covering that area at the time?

Thanks :)
