London and Middlesex / No Birth Cert or Baptism
« on: Monday 24 February 14 10:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone tell me whether it is common for a family not to have registered the births of their children nor to have had them baptised?  I believe my gg grandmother was born in 1851 in Chelsea but I can find no birth certificate for her nor a record of baptism for her or her two siblings (probably born 1845 & 1850).  According to the 1851 census their parents were living as man and wife but were not actually married until 1852.

Thanks, Elldee.

Armed Forces / Chelsea Pensioner Records
« on: Tuesday 10 August 10 18:48 BST (UK)  »
Could a kind soul help me find a Chelsea Pensioner record?

I am looking for the record of George Henderson, born in Chelsea, London, Middlesex between 1825 & 1830.  He served with 2nd Battallion, 15th Regt and is listed on the 1881 census as a Chelsea pensioner.

Many thanks, Elldee. ;D

Armed Forces / Killed in the war or not?
« on: Wednesday 18 June 08 22:11 BST (UK)  »
If a person received a Certificate of Service and Discharge after WWI does that mean they survived the war?

My grandmother told my dad that her father died during WWI.  However, I have been given my gt grandfather's certificate of service from the Royal Naval Reserve which states he served from 1915 and was discharged in February 1919, the certificate itself was signed July 1920.  I'm now wondering whether what my grandmother said was true.

Thanks, Elldee

Armed Forces / Navy Discharge Certificate
« on: Sunday 01 October 06 11:38 BST (UK)  »
My aunt has just discovered a very badly damaged Certificate of Service/Discharge for my great grandfather dated 1920 and stating that he served in the RNR from 1915 until his discharge in 1919.  However, according to my late grandmother he died during WWI.

If he had died would a discharge certificate have been issued anyway or does this prove he can't have died whilst still in service.

Thanks, Elldee

« on: Saturday 03 December 05 13:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Could someone please look up George Frederick Henderson on the 1841 census in St Lukes, Chelsea.  He would have been about 15 years old around this time.  Unfortunately, that's the only info I have.

Thanks, Elldee.

Armed Forces / Query - Registering WWI Deaths
« on: Monday 24 October 05 14:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Could anyone answer this - if a serviceman was killed during WWI did it fall to a member of his family to register his death or did the War Office do this?

Thanks, Elldee

Hi,

Would anyone be able to lookup a couple of baptisms for me?  They are for Annie Ellen Henderson who I believe was born in 1851 and Caroline Amelia Henderson born 1845.

I've had no success in finding either birth certificate to enable me to find out their mum's maiden name (would the baptism record show this?).  Their parents were called George Frederick and Emily Henderson (though I'm not sure whether they were married at the time).  They lived a few streets away from St Luke's Church in Chelsea and Annie subsequently married there so I'm hoping that's where they were baptised.

Many thanks,

Elldee   :D

Shropshire Lookup Requests / 1891 Census Hodnet - Henderson
« on: Friday 17 June 05 14:21 BST (UK)  »
Would someone be kind enough to look up George & Emily Henderson (both aged around 60) on the 1891 census in the Hodnet area of Shropshire to see if they are still alive at this time.  George was ex-military.  They were living in Shrewsbury Road in 1881.

Thanks, Linda.    :)
