Suffolk / Death/Burial in Dec 1833 or Jan 1834 of Joseph Goddard in Fressingfield
« on: Monday 14 March 22 13:35 GMT (UK)  »
Death/Burial in Dec 1833 or Jan 1834 of Joseph Goddard in Fressingfield or Chediston?

I found this inquest report in the Ipswich Journal 4 Jan 1834 of a Joseph Goddard, found dead on Christmas Day 1833 but I am not finding the burial of a Joseph Goddard in late Dec 1833 or Jan 1834 on the Suffolk Burials CD that I have purchased. I've considered that he might not be buried in Suffolk of course, but I think he would have been. Any ideas?

Suffolk / Parish Funded Emigration
« on: Wednesday 02 February 22 10:34 GMT (UK)  »
I was looking at Stradbroke parish for the Thrower family who were paupers and seemed to disappear in the early 1820s, and in the 1874 White's Directory it said: "The parish sent about 200 paupers emigrants to America from 1831 to 1843."

So I did a search for Stradbroke in the TNA catalogue and it found lots of information about Lord Stradbroke - however, this description of a letter dated 17 July 1844, reference MH 12/489/188 was interesting:

" Content: Folios 274-276. I've been doing my friend's tree and she has had her DNA done on Ancestry and she doesn't match her aunt at all. I need help to help her interpret these results.

Is there anyone out there I can speak to please.  No other relatives alive to test.

Or is there a step by step guide somewhere I could refer to?

Many thanks

Lancashire / Bolton - Bridge Street
« on: Sunday 11 November 18 08:18 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone live in Bolton and recall a leather goods shop in Bridge Street? Possibly run by a Polish family in the 1950s or 1960s?

Or is there a directory online that I could search for it. Any help or ideas gratefully received.

Many thanks

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ethnicity Estimate turmoil
« on: Wednesday 22 November 17 09:34 GMT (UK)  »
My friend has recently tested on Ancestry and has been given the Ethnicity Estimate of 50% Great Britain 26% Eastern Europe, 13% West Europe, 7% Finnish/Russian and smaller amounts of others. They now have a very real concern that their father is not their real father and are upset.

I don't think that's what it is telling them, as I know the weight that should be assigned to this. However, I want to point them in the direction of a written paper to help them understand exactly what it means to allay their fears. They are not keen to share this with family members and it is not helping that so far they have no DNA matches to their father's side or none that can be identified.

Can anyone advise or PM me privately to discuss.
Many thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Ghio/Wilson marriage 8 Apr 1897 Bradford, YKS
« on: Friday 20 October 17 07:38 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for a marriage in Bradford of a Guiseppi/Joseph Ghio b. 1866 and a Mary/Marie Wilson b. 1870 which, according to their son's birth record in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1907, took place on 8 April 1897 in Bradford, YKS. First child Lizzie Ghio b. 1898 Bradford. I can't find it on  FreeBMD, Ancestry or FindMyPast. Guiseppi was Italian, probably RC. I think there were some RC chapels in Bradford but I don't know how to access their records and I read that before 1898, RC marriages had to be recorded as civil marriages, so I would have thought the records would be held centrally somewhere.

Does anyone have any ideas to help me find Guiseppi/Joseph's father's name please?

Many thanks

Hi
If anyone can help with Michael Riley's sister's name please, I would be most grateful... I'm presuming it's a married name as it doesn't look like Riley.

So far I have come up with Sister Mary Lee Al???? Candelaria Co. Nevada USA. Candelaria is now a ghost town in the county of Mineral County, Nevada but at the time I think it was in Esmeralda County, Nevada. I can't find a record of her emigrating at all.

For context, Michael Riley was born in 1866 in Swansea, Wales and this is his attestation papers from 1887. He was in the RA and then RGA until 1904 when he was discharged. This is why his next of kin have changed over time as his mother Mary Riley who died whilst he was serving. His other next of kin are his brother Patrick and his brother Thomas who was in the South Wales Borderers (I've not found him there yet).

His sister Mary was born in 1869 also in Swansea. Wales, and was in the 1871 and 1881 census in Swansea with her parents and is possibly in Cardiff, Wales still unmarried in the 1891 census as a servant aged 23 with the Jones family and other visitors.

I've tried all sorts of searches to find Mary after 1891 but so far have come up with nothing. Any ideas on that name would be wonderful.
TIA (I'm also presuming that the page I attached is there when I post... )

Essex / Boreham PRs 1754 - SEAX
« on: Monday 20 April 15 14:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I've been looking at the St Andrew Boreham PRs on SEAX a lot lately. But I'm having a slight problem with the 1754 page. I'm trying to find a possible death and remarriage (conjecture of course...) but there don't appear to be any entries for the early part of 1754.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I haven't attached the image in case it would infringe copyright or licence but I could if it would help. It's image 31.

I'm looking at the surname Emery (and variants) but that's not particularly relevant to this particular issue.

Clearly something happened as the handwriting changes - so any help or ideas most appreciated.
