Europe / Bruynseels (sic)
« on: Friday 02 February 24 12:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I'm at a bit of a dead end here and it's a long time since I first posted about this so maybe there is some new info out there?

Mr great grandmother's sister, Alice Edith Esther Watkins (b Wollaston, Glos 1896) to William & Esther (Wood) Watkins married a Belgian refugee, John Bruynseels (b c 1876) in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire on 20 Oct 1915

Then off they went to Belgium and that is the last record I have managed to find of them .. anywhere

Not knowing where to look doesn't help so if anyone can point me in any direction I would appreciate it

It appears that John Bruynseels is a fairly common name around the times I am searching

I have no knowledge of any children of the marriage

Thanks
Richard

Hello all

I am trying to find the death date of my relative above. He is the 'missing link' on a particular line

He was born in Llanelly, Breconshire on 22 Oct 1919 and died in Jersey
His wife was Joyce Mary (Pearce) Simmonds who died in Jersey in 2016 aged 96 years
They had one son

Not sure where to look , so any help would be appreciated

Thank you
Richard

Breconshire / James family of Clydach
« on: Saturday 08 July 23 16:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am descended from John James (c1803-1878) & Elizabeth (Price) James (c1813-1874) of Clydach, Breconshire

John was born in 1803 in Llangattack, Brecs and Elizabeth was born in Llanelly, Brecs in 1813

I have found the following children:-

Ann James (b c1834)
Richard James (b c1837)
John James (1839-1916)
William James (1842-1909) my 2 x great grandfather
Margaret James (1846-1894)
Elizabeth James (1849-1921)

Neither John nor Elizabeth married, and I don't think that Margaret married

However, I have struggled to find information on Ann & Richard after the 1861 Census
There was an Ann James (daughter), present at the death of John James in 1878

I am wondering if there's anyone out there with a connection to this family

Thank you
Richard J Thomas

Monmouthshire / Trinant BMD's
« on: Sunday 25 February 18 17:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all

Not sure if I've asked this before, so apologies in advance

Why were Trinant BMD's from the 40's thru 60's registered as Caerleon, which is 16+ miles away whereas Pontypool is only 6+ miles away?

Anyone with any idea? It's very confusing for researchers if they don't know the areas

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / William Truman/Trueman
« on: Wednesday 14 February 18 13:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I’m looking for the death/burial of my 4xggf, William Truman (b All Cannings c1769) who married Phebe Smart in Melksham

His daughter Sarah, my 3xggm was born c1801and Phebe remarried to John Sta(u)nton in 1806 (Melksham) so I’m assuming William’s demise occurred between 1800-1806

Thank you
Rich

Monmouthshire / "The Grove", Malpas, Newport
« on: Thursday 01 February 18 15:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

In the 1911 Census, members of my extended family lived in a 21-roomed house called "The Grove" at Malpas, Newport

I'm fairly familiar with Newport but have no idea where this house was or if it still exists

My family were still there in 1922

Anyone with knowledge of this property?

Thank you
Rich

Herefordshire / Sophia Thomas b Stoke Lacy?
« on: Wednesday 31 January 18 09:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Does anyone know of any baptism records for Stoke Lacy from the 1810s-1820s or would baptisms have occurred elsewhere?

Cannot seem to find anything on any sites - my 3 x ggm, SOPHIA THOMAS was born in Stoke Lacy c1820, the daughter of John Thomas, farmer - I believe that she may have had a brother George

And that's as far as I can get

She married my 3 x ggf, WALTER PRICE in Llanelly, Brecs in 1847

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks
Rich

The Common Room / Remarrying after desertion in the late 19th C
« on: Monday 26 June 17 22:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

My 1st cousin, three times removed was deserted by her husband in 1879

He went to Pennsylvania where he remarried, possibly before a child was born in 1884

My cousin remarried in 1897

Does anyone know the rules for remarrying after desertion in both the US and UK?

Were there such rules?

Many thanks in advance
Rich

Hi all

I am researching for someone in Maryland and the family are living at Danks Row, Aberystruth in the 1841 Census (Hitchins)

I am assuming that it was in Nantyglo but cannot find a suitable map to pinpoint where it was

Does anyone know?

Thank you
