Wiltshire / Two Irish sisters that lived next door to one another in Wiltshire.
« on: Wednesday 30 September 20 15:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello to you all.
I have two great aunts that I am trying to track down, they were from Kilmacow, county Kilkenny in Ireland, There names were Margaret(known as Maggie born 25/9/1905) and Ellen(known as Nellie born 14 March 1899) Cooke.
I was told that they moved to Wiltshire and lived next door to one another. One of them married to a Mr O'Brien (or O'Brian or Bryan) I think it may have been Maggie. I am assuming they took up married life there, so potentially the twenties or thirties? Or not, maybe they retired there?
I know this is a bit of a wide ball, but I know if anyone can give me an answer, it's here.
Thanks in advance.
I would like to know where in Wiltshire they lived, when they passed away and who they were married too.
All the best, and stay safe.

Canada / Bair/Bear, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
« on: Monday 12 March 18 01:21 GMT (UK)  »
I had an aunt, Sarah Curran. Quite romantic really, during world war 1, herself and her sister Mary went to live in London from Dublin. At that time they apparently went to  a troopship bound for the western front(so i was told) full of Canadian soldiers. They stood at the dock and threw their address details up to the troops on the ship, who eventually sent them letters to come and join them in Canada after the war.
Sarah left for Canada, and met up with a John Bair/Bear. I was always told that he was a native Canadian man, though looking at my research at ancestry.com, I have found a 1916 census for Prince Albert, showing a John A Bair as being on overseas duty, it is marked on the census paper'(o)' I am assumng this is him.
Problem is that this fella is of Scottish origin, no statement about him being native. Am I getting my wires mixed up.
Family legend says he was a native. Yet I cannot find a John Bear at all, let alone one with a military record for ww1. Could he have actually been a Scots man? Can someone who has a bit more savvy than I clear my head?
Problem is also, that there are many Bairs and Bears in the town of Prince Albert. Please help me someone!
Thank you in advance,
Pete.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / James, Joshua, Jason!?
« on: Thursday 19 January 17 01:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there
Just looking at a record and just really need confirmation as to what a word is, it is from a baptismal list, I put the examples together so you can compare, they all begin with 'J' they are mens first names, the one I am interested in is the middle one, is it Joshua? Joseph? Or maybe something else, I can also say it is from 1830.
I hope you can help me, and thank you in advance  :)

On a census record from 1911, the person has filled out the form 'as Gaelge' in the birthplace section, he has written what is in the attachment.
Any suggestions as to what it is, very much appreciated.

Galway / O'Rorke, O'Rourke, Rourke, Rorke, Uí Ruairc of Galway.
« on: Saturday 05 November 16 15:16 GMT (UK)  »
My Great grandfather Thomas O'Rorke was born somewhere in County Galway around 1845, I have hit the proverbial genealogical brick wall, after years of attacking, I have to put my hands up, and maybe one of you can help me.
As I said, that is it, he was born in County Galway, his fathers name was James, this says it on the Marriage certificate of Thomas when he married in 1876. He was in the RIC and travelled a lot around the southern counties, I know this, but I would really love to know is just where he was born and what his mothers maiden name was.
I have looked through a number of baptismal certs in the area, though I know someone on here will have an answer, I have helped many here over the years, and have been helped too, so here I am again.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me,
All the best in family history
Pete :)
