Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Dorking Burials
« on: Saturday 20 March 10 16:26 GMT (UK)  »
Where would I start to look for burials of relatives that occurred prior to the opening of the Dorking Municipal Cemetary. I have obtained a gravesite plan for the DMC which helps immensely (also with help from the Surrey Burial Index) but can't seem to make any headway into other burial sites in Dorking. thanks for any suggestion and help.

Donegal / McIntyre / Keyes - Ballyshannon, Donegal
« on: Tuesday 26 January 10 16:48 GMT (UK)  »
Would anyone be able to help finding information or giving me directions to finding out more about the following relatives?

My Grandmother was born Annabella Fluke in Ballyshannon in 1887 (her parents were living with Annabella's maternal grandparents at the time). (I have her baptism record, marriage certificate , etc.)

Her maternal grandparents were John McIntyre and Annabella Keyes. I have no information about birth, marriage or deaths for John and Annabella McIntyre.

I believe either my Grandmother or her father had a brother named Alex McIntyre who emigrated to the USA.

Thanks for any help.

Leitrim / Laughafonta Cloonclare - Kempson / Ross
« on: Tuesday 26 January 10 16:16 GMT (UK)  »
I have the Birth Register for my Grandfather William Kempson born September 1883 Laughafonta, Cloonclare (I have the original in my possession). William's parents were Joseph KEMPSON (born 1859 Laughafonta) and Elizabeth Jane ROSS (born 1859 Manorhamilton). I believe Joseph's father was also a Joseph Kempson who died Blackpark, Leitrim 1883. Eliza's father was I believe a Thomas or John Ross.

How or where do I go about finding out more about the family.

There was a spelling change at some point of the Kempson name to Kempston so there are now relatives in Ireland (and elsewhere) with both spellings.

Thanks for any help.

FH Documents and Artefacts / Can you identify this "Thing"?
« on: Sunday 29 November 09 19:35 GMT (UK)  »
It belonged to my Grandmother's brother-in-law. He was born in Ireland and died in Scotland in 1901. On census forms he was listed as a "Banksman at a colliery", a "Foundary labourer", and a "Tube work labourer".

The "Thing's" measurements are 2 1/2 inches X 1 1/2 inches X just less than 1/2 inch wide.

The top flips open. His name is engraved on the long side.

Dublin / Dublin Marriage Mystery
« on: Sunday 29 November 09 14:56 GMT (UK)  »
James FLUKE (my great grandfather) married Annabella McINTYRE in Dublin in 1883 - so the story goes.

James was born June 1, 1846 at Ballydoo, Killylea, Armagh (father Robert FLUKE).

Annabella was born July 12, 1857 Ballyshannon (father John McINTYRE).

I have tried several search engines without any luck to find out the actual date of their marriage.

Can anyone help -- please??
