Northumberland / Wanted Cemetary Map St Giles Church Netherwitton
« on: Tuesday 31 March 15 16:27 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to locate the graves of two family members buried around 1930 in the st giles church cemetery, the small patch of grass across the road from the church.

The local vicar did confirm my relatives were buried there but with no headstones the information i was given would be no use without a layout map showing how the plots are laid out.

The family members were Alexander Muir and his wife Jane Muir nee Dunn

Thnaks for looking

Northumberland / Wanted photo of OLD Phoenix pub in morpeth
« on: Tuesday 31 March 15 16:20 BST (UK)  »
One of my Ancestors lived and died in this pub around 1891 managed by a George Kerr at the time, I believe it was located around where the Dawnson and Sanderson is now located approximately across from the old Morpeth herald office.

The Old phoenix was still in operation i think in the earlier 1900's not to be confused with the other phoenix pub which was located across the road where the heart foundation shop is now.

As such i am trying to find a photo if one exists, so far it has been quite tricky as most photos for this street have been shot from either end and as such you cannot quite make the pub out.

thanks in advance

Northumberland / Re: St Matthews church Dinnington

yes unfortunately, but I got a standard reply one gets when somebody  cannot be bothered to go to trouble helping you. They pointed me to the information I already had "died in St Matthews parish dinnington" They then proceeded to tell me that none will exist. That they were hand drawn on scrap paper. The reality is that some of these church cemeteries are still used for family plots and special dispensation etc so the grave diggers know.

Classic example is St Mary's Church in Morpeth there parish records were destroyed but they have managed to recreate a lot of them even though woodhorn said there would be none.

And West conforth Church, Durham DRO said there would be none, low and behold, the church has a funeral next week and again the church as been helpful and said they would look up details for me.

I just hope st matthews will be as helpful

yes I have posted all before but to know avail hence looking up over for possible parents, brothers, sistes and cousins they may have had.

George Muir Paper maker born around 1800 in Scotland, married to wife Jane (surname unknown)

He had a son born approx 1825 called John Muir and Another Born 1827 Alexander Muir.

We found a possible match on the 1841 Census for Lasswade were a George Muir Papermaker married to a Jane has a son called Alexander born 1827 but a son in b1825 called James, John could have born the year before and Possibly no longer living at home or John mis-transcribed as james.

On the census it states they were all born in lasswade but can find no evidence of this, cannot confirm Janes Second name as yet.

I do no that family moved to Durham England between 1841-51 and my relatives also moved then so this seems to suggest the link

I have tried that and it does give a few results, was hoping that people might leave messages claiming some of those ancestors so i could piece them together (who is related and who is not) and in the process find my link.

each cemetery at some point would have a map of the cemetery and who is buried where, this is so new graves can be dug and relatives can be buried in family plots.

The grave diggers could not operate without this, although some cemeteries seem like they are no longer used since civil cemeteries were introduced, special compensation can be made and of course family plots can be used.

Hi Janis

The relative I am looking for died in 1892, his name was John Muir aged 13 years. So far most of my family have not had headstones (unless wooden). So MI are usually not helpful but you never know

 :)
