If you have access to the 1851 census do a look up to see if you can find John and Mary Pugh with a son Thomas aged abt 13 just to rule out Elenor.

I have posted a few comments on Pughs of Bishop Castle. I believe  Thomas Pugh b1838 who married Caroline Davies remarried after her death in Sep Qtr 1859. I have him as marrying Martha Davies in 1860. Thomas was my gg gd father.

Just had a look on ancestry .co.uk and found the death of Caroline Pugh in Sep Qtr 1859 in the Clun district. This is looking very promising that this is the wife of Thomas who then went on to marry Martha Davies (Caroline's sister?) at Clun in 1860 ;D ;D.

So it looks like there is a connection with Pugh at Lydbury North and we can assume that Thomas's gd father was John Pugh b 15 Jun 1775 and gd mother Mary Davies b 11 Feb 1776.

Whose line are you from Mabelsgirl? William Pugh b1862 had a son John c1886 who was my gd father.

Just noticed on the Pugh Lydbury North topic that there is a John Pugh and Mary Smallman with a son Thomas born 1838 but he married Caroline Davies 5 Sep 1858. I wonder if she then died and he married her sister Martha as I have his marriage to her as 8th May 1860. Have you been in touch to find out?

If this is the correct line it seems that John b1806 had a father John b1775 and mother Mary (Davies). They certainly seemed to inter breed. ::)

Noticed you have a few Pughs who married Davies's. I have a Thomas Pugh b1838 who married Martha Davies. In 1861 census they are living next door to the Davies family in Church Street. Thomas was a sawyer so probably related to yours.

Have you seen Mabelsgirl post on Pughs of Bishops Castle. It is the same line as mine. I have only just discovered this site so I am quite excited at finding a connection so soon! ;D

I, too, have Thomas and Martha in my tree. Thomas is my gg gd father. I have his marriage cert naming John as his father but am no further back than that.
