Essex / Maryon and Samuel Pepys
« on: Friday 13 January 12 10:49 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know the connection between Samuel Pepys and the Maryon family of Braintree/White Roding? I have just found a letter in a book about Samuel Pepys, from Rev Joseph Maryon while he was at Clare College, Cambridge and the author calls Maryon the cousin of Pepys.
Thanks
Honor

I don't know but he could well have done - as she was the widow of William Waldegrave, they might have married at Bures. Can't remember if I said this but I did find in the Wormingford records the death of 'Mrs Clarke' in early 1664 -Peregrine married Mary Parke, nee Hunt, in November of that same year. i've also discovered that Elizabeth Clarke, Peregrine's sister, was married to John True/Trew of Witham; she was a Presbyterian and it looks as if a lot of the family were too so perhaps Peregrine's first marriage was in a Meeting House?! Honestly, this family gives me brain-ache!

Thank you. He ended up living in Kersey Priory so I wonder if he got married in Suffolk... You have to admit 'brick walls' keep your brain going!!

Thank you, that was very kind of you - at least Wormingford is now out of the equation. It has been suggested that it might have been a Quaker marriage so I might try and look there.

I'm new to RootsChat and am trying to find a marriage that might have taken place between 1652 and 1660 in Wormingford between a Frances Waldegrave and Peregrine/Perygryn Clerke/Clarke. He was living in Wormingford Lodge at that time.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
