Thanks for that, I have found a William Smith marrying a Leah Tinson, and the dates seem to fit, so I'll move on from there.

Thanks for that, I think I got a little confused. I found the Edward Smith and then backtracked him to the one living in Tucker St. Bristol.... oddly enough same father's name, William and even more oddly, the guy in Bristol was an Edwin in one census and became an Edward in the next. However I think this was a mistake, because the info you have for 1851 and 1861 showing born Paulton, with family born thereabouts in Chewton and farrington Gurny looks much better. I think the part about moving to Yorkshire with his brother and both marrying two sisters makes it even more certain. Do you by any chance have anything on the marriage of Edward's parents, there was a mention of a William being 72 in 1851, could this have been Edward's G/father?, and one last thing, can you tell me which parish Paulton, Chewton and Farrington are in please?  Thanks a lot

This is where things may have gone astray...1871 census shows Edward and his wife Mary living with his in-laws Samuel and Elizabeth Beaumont at Low Road, Hunslet, Leeds...birthplace Paulton, Somerset, but looking back for 1851 and 1841 to get some background on his family, can only find the entry you mention....living at Tucker St. , and born Bristol. Am I on the right track or is this a Smith too far??

Looking for a bit of guidance with Edward Smith, born appx 1849, shown as Paulton, Somerset in the later census's, moved to yorkshire at some point and married a Mary Beaumont in Leeds, 1870. the only background I have on Edward seems to show being born in Bristol, dist. of St. Pauls, father William. I know there a lot of smiths out there, but am I on the right trail? help please.

Durham / Elgy/ Robson
« on: Thursday 26 May 11 17:05 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any details on the marriage of Charles Elgy, b. 1846 Evenwood gate, Durham to Jane Robson. I believe they were married in the first quarter of 1873 in Auckland, Durham but this may be a red herrring as there were quite a few Robsons and Elgys about at this time. I have nothing else on Jane at all, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / (Mac)Clean /Smith

Ihope someone out there can assist me with my first venture into Rootschatting... I am looking for anything on Charles Maclean who married Mary Smith in Norton near Malton, 1798. Charles' father was called Thomas, and Charles was christened Jan/1770 in Hovingham, Yorks, although the name seems to have been transcribed as 'Clean' without the Mac. The children of Charles and Mary lived and settled in the Malton/Rillington/Scampston area for several generations before moving to Leeds. Charles and Mary both lived to quite an old age and prior to their deaths were living in Stock's Yard, Norton.
Anything on Charles' ancestors or anything at all on Mary would be very much welcome, Thanks.
