Ross & Cromarty / Re: Rev Andrew Gallie
« on: Monday 31 August 09 03:27 BST (UK)  »
For information on the Rev. Andrew Gallie see the second Statistical Account of Scotland (available online at http://edina.ac.uk/stat-acc-scot/) and log in as an unregistered user and go the the Parish of Kincardine (Ross and Cromarty) and find pp. 426-427 for the Rev Andrew Gallie, or go to http://www.rchs.uhi.ac.uk/communit/p37/ht/pa/pa_kincardine/kincardine_pa02.html where that account is also made available

and

to http://www.sonasmor.net where you will find reproduced Glimpses of Church and Social Life in the Highlands in Olden Times, by Alexander Macpherson  and specifically http://www.sonasmor.net/ministers3.html where you will find Rev Andrew Gallie listed as one of the Ministers of the Parish of Laggan

I would also expect to find him in the Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae (if you are near a library that holds a copy of these volumes) and that would give fuller biographical details ...

Midlothian / Re: Barbara Parker Cox, Edinburgh

The divorce was in 1958, apparently. You can request a copy of the papers from the National Archives of Scotland which should give you the background and perhaps the name of the third party in the matter. Email them at enquiries at nas.gov.uk quoting reference CS258/1958/1122 and ask for a quotation, or, depending on where you live, you can visit NAS in Edinburgh yourself and read them there at your leisure, or have someone visit and consult the document on your behalf.

1975 HAWTHORNE CLARA ALICE Not Permissible   Female aged 82 at EASTWOOD AND MEARNS /EAST RENFREWSHIRE

... on the basis of which the birth of a Clara Alice Hawthorne registered in the first quarter of 1893 (so the birth could have been late Dec 1892 to late March 1893) in the Registration District of Dudley (which includes the subdistrict of Tipton) would fit, but only inspection of the birth and death certificates will confirm the identity
